I like the respect Connolly gives Andrulis for the change in the team. Many here have wrongly called Andrulis, "Fitz Jr. or Fitzdrulis," but I think with the type of players and system Andrulis has brought into this club proves he's his own man.
More talk of getting all three on the field at the same time. I still don't see how it would be more effective than how we are playing now. Nice to see the Crew get good press though, they definately deserve it.
i would prefer to rotate cunny and buddle. either one could be called a "super sub" and really get after a tired D after the 60 min mark. looks like we have to settle for cunny/mcbride for the next few weeks. life is rough. damn.
Am I the only one that will still call him Fitzdrulis? I think one of his downfalls is that he usually rotates players too often. We finally have a consistency in the line-up, only to be interrupted by these rumors of switching to 3 up top. IMO he can garner more respect by leaving things lie until either we prove we cannot do it anymore or teams learn how to stop it. In which case, I hope he has one of these contingency plans ready to incorporate when we need something shaken up.
Lets see what your worried about YITBOS. Maybe a little scenario: Reporter: So you have three quality forwards, who all are itching to get minutes. You have McBride, who is a consistant national team player and performed well in the EPL, there's Cunningham, the leading scorer for the last two years and a member of the Pepsi best XI last year, and Buddle, who is a rising youngster who could have a break out year in MLS. Have you ever thought of getting them all in the starting lineup together. Andrulis: Yes Headline: Andrulis Wants to Start All Three
Persoanlly, I don't think I accused him of being Fitzgerald lite, so I'm off the hook there. But I DID object heartily to some of his personnel picks and especially the way he was using them. Glad to say I was all wet. If he'd like, I'll let him bitch slap me a couple times.
As to the article, herewith a few of my typical unvarnished opinions: - I have no real idea how the Hejduk deal went down. Since this is MLS, we'll probably never know the whole truth. But if it's true that, as stated by several different writers, no other team's coaches were very interested in him, then there are nine teams coached by blithering idiots. - I bow to no one in my admiration for Marc Connolly. I'm proud to say that I was among the first to tout the guy's work on BS back when nobody was paying attention. But he's just flat out wrong about McBride. All things being equal, he is currently the most valuable American player, quite probably the most important American soccerite ever. As a player, as a team leader and as a banner-carrier for MLS both here and overseas, it is neither debatable nor even particularly close: he IS the man. - Connolly goes an entire article without mentioning the reason WHY it's possible to run this high-octane offense with all the switches and the "total football" mentality. (although in fairness he does mention that "other players" were "holding" when Martino, Hejduk et al were running the gaps) Their names are Maissoneuve and Paule. Without them, none of this happens. Period. Their class, awareness, experience and willingness to do the hard work are carrying this outfit on their backs. - And Jeff Cunningham has the best job in the world. Why in the hell would he "complain", Marc? He'll probably end up as the first non-starter to lead MLS in points. If you recall, a fellow named Arena feels this is his best role as well. Andrulis is not alone.
