Here's a great column by Marc on the HDC and what it'll mean to US soccer: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/feature?id=269264&cc=5901
Great work as usual Marc, but Stamford Bridge is most certainly not the home of Newcastle United.. It's Chelsea's home.... St. James Park is home to the Geordies....
I totally agree with Mark. Let's get rid of this "Victoria Street" nonsense. 1. Home Depot shelled out some big $$ on this thing and any corporation (or person) willing to do that to support U.S. soccer deserves what they pay for. 2. This isn't the Eurozone...get used to it! Leave it to La-La land to be without an original thought!
I realize I'm picking at nits, but I'd like to think that US-Mexico @ Columbus would be part of that list...
Sigh Bleacherbutt, what Profiled is trying to say is that Ren, Dre, Easy and Cube penned Straight out of Compton. Terminator, Chuck, Flav and Griff had nothing to do with it. Cweedchop, you may want to go back and read the piece again. I think Marc got the stadium thing right.
I like "Avalon". While I would prefer an American name, a tie to the country of origin of soccer is certainly explainable and appropriate. And it is less blatantly British than "Victoria Street" would be. Plus, "avalon" can be pronounced reasonably well in Spanish, whereas The Home Depot Center, "el centro casero del depósito", doesn't easily roll off the tongue. The address of the HDC is 18400 Avalon Blvd. Avalon is also the name of the only town on Santa Catalina Island, population 3,000, owned by the William Wrigley Jr. family. Interestingly, neither Avalon nor Victoria is the name of a place in England.
Re: Sigh The column's correct now, but for several days it did contain the "Stamford Bridge (Newcastle)" typo that Cweedchop caught.
