Nobody but Pat Onstad himself is going to convince me he's a top MLS keeper. Having watched a ton of his play this season, I don't see it happening. This is crazy. Hartman should run away with the award. (...like Shooter McGavin and the green jacket.)
I basically agree with this. Somebody pointed out that Hartman had faced something like 50 more shots over the course of the season. Not sure how Onstad would have faced the increased pressure if he'd had to. Having said that, while Hartman is a fine keeper, he's far from perfect. I've seen him fumble balls, flail at crosses, muff shots and generally exhibit some serious butterball fingers. He's a great shotstopper but his overall play needs to improve to be truly top class IMHO. btw, interesting that Donovan got Zero votes for MVP.
I noticed how many of the MLS Best XI (and the runners up) were Americans. I know most of the players in MLS are American, but it's nice to see that the home-grown talent are the best in the league. By contrast, how many of the EPL's Best XI last year (which included Yank Brad Friedel) were actually from England?
