On behalf of Fire fans everywhere, Congratulations, Peter Nowak, on winning your first MLS Cup championship as a coach. Hope you can coach for us someday!
Hell yeah. I'm very happy for Peter. I was pulling for him all the way after we didn't make it. It's just so obvious what his spirit, knowledge, drive brings to a team. Way to go Peter!
Congratulations, Piotr. You continue to be the embodiment of the spirit we look for in everyone who represents Chicago Fire.
Congrats, Piotr, on overcoming the many obstacles thrown in your path this year (injuries, call-ups, prime player sold to Eruope, the Freddy media circus) to achieve victory! Now please come home. We need you to kick this Fire squad in the ass and make winners out of them.
It's the emotion talking, but if Dave struggles out of the gate in 2005 take that mythical 2 mil for Hristo and bring Piotr home.
In truth, this plays right into a theory I've had for a while. I think so many of us hoped Peter would do well this year, it used up some of the good will we had for our own team. I know I'm guilty. I really, really wanted Peter to win. P.S. Nice sentiment, but a (R) and a different title for a little while would have been good.
We may fight for him if it comes down to it. Aside from the emotional connection we have to Nowak; it's the kind of thing a big club serious about competing does - poach the coach of a successful club by any means necessary. We're not there yet, but if we flounder early or don't have a team that we can be proud of in the same way as teams before 2004 my feelings will be with poaching Piotr at all costs.
Yeah as long as he doesnt say anything stupid to some of the dorks in Section 8, then they might throw loaves of bread at him too!!!!
Typically, in sport there are two distinct kinds of coaches: Those that are technically sound in the all aspects of their game, and those that are less knowledgeable, but have the ability to inspire their players to greatness. Rarely do you find an individual that combines both. Piotr Nowak is the exception to the norm. He was the on field coach for the FIRE while in Chicago. He led by example, never asking more of anyone else than he did of himself. He took a disorganized DC United team and turned them into Champions. Truly we need this man back in Chicago; whatever it takes – whatever the price.
While we all would probably trade Dave for Nowak right now, we might as well get used to the fact DC is not going to give him up now for anything. The only way we could get him back is if wilt gets a job in the mls front office and we could offer Nowak the GM and coaching job.
Duh. That doesn't mean, if it comes down to it, we still don't give it our best shot. I love how comments that IF certain things were to happen and IF we struggle next season and IF such and such were to take place we would make a play for Peter got turned into us storming the District this week to kidnap Nowak and bring him back to chicago. Those of us in chicago have enormous respect for Nowak. If he had even said a word about intending to coach when Bob left I think he'd have gotten the job without a sweat. Those of us here (and certainly, Peter too) agree that Peter has a special connection to this club and it would be right for us next time there is a vacancy at the helm to make a big push to sign him. Whether Nowak himself wishes to forego what he's done in DC to come home is up to him. He may turn us down (it's always a possibility) but it doesn't preclude us from trying.
Nowak anywhere else and I doubt he's as successful. Winning attitude and relentless work combined w/ all that is DC = success.
BAsed on Eric Wynalda's comments after what is was like playing with Peter when Eric played on the Fire.... Erics response was I couldnt tell if he was the player or THE COACH.... I am parapharsing but I think murtaugh's theory stillholds true... Not to mention resent results my have solved Wynalda uncertainty as well....
