Agreed. Although I was thinking Jay DeMerit would be in the running, Chris should have had an assist too, if Eddie Johnson could have put his lazy ass into second gear.
Think Chris was the right call. I would have been pissed if they'd given it to Johnson after what was a pretty lackluster performance IMHO with one lucky deflection...
I would have given it to DeMerit - and I wholeheartedly agree with the rest of the post as well. That is just the lazy forwarding I expect from him though. I feared they'd give it to him for "scoring the game winning goal" which was the result of a great pass and a lucky deflection. He got to be the first to hold the trophy
DeRo will get tired. But judging from the end of the game... a tired DeRo plays better. We need that DeRo and that Pontius back in MLS play. If they take the PSG game off to be fresh for Columbus that'd be fine with me although I'm sure both will want to play and deserve the chance as they did last night.
DeRo needs some rest - But he's also the type of athlete who plays best when he plays regularly - Pontius is probably that way as well - Not all athletes are like this but certainly DeRo is - Olsen just needs to manage his minutes late in the game
Actually, typically young players also play their best when they play regularly, and we have a fairly young team, so the people saying our recent schedule has disrupted our rhythm, I agree with it.
It seems that more than just the media were interested in Chris's performance. Apparently, Chelsea invited Chris to train with the club. What is not clear is the context of that invitation.
Nice. That would certainly give Chelsea time to more thoroughly look him over. If they, or any other BPL team, show any real interest in him, he would need to play almost every MNT match between now and the end of the year to have any chance of being granted a work permit, next year.
And starting in qualifiers isn't going to happen unless he explodes or aims his car at the 3 or 4 guys ahead of him all having lunch at the same table.
True, however interest by a club like Chelsea might spark some interest from clubs in countries that do not have such stringent work-permit requirements.
He probably just tells chicks he's the lead singer for Maroon 5. That'll work better in the US than being any soccer player not named David Beckham.
If you were truly supportive of Chris' ambitions, you'd do this for him. Having said that, I don't think Geoff Cameron appeared in 75% of the MNT games over the past two years and I thought appeals only applied to injured players - Cameron was injured in 2010, but. . . (If anyone has a good link to why an exception was made in Cameron's case, I'd be interested). At any rate, Pontius spent considerable time in both 2010 and 2011 injured and he was called into the camps (speculatively) prior to that. One could make the case that his injuries prevented NT appearances, although I feel it would be dishonest.
