They made it into the field of 64 for the women's college cup :) They'll host Yale on Friday, then that winner faces the Hartford/Nebraska survivor next Sunday.

Janel is one of the Wildcats assistant coaches. That's 2 for 2 in Ncaa tournament appearances for her, since she was the starting goalie last year...

    Well done.

hmmm the other end of the double header is captian kirk's old ship :) maybe we can get a group for the sunday final if one or both of the home teams advance

That's odd. To host in the NCAAs, one requirement is that the host must be able to play night games, ergo, stadium lights.

So it's Villanova vs. Yale, & Hartford vs. Nebraska. Dudes, you have got to watch these games. There are several names to watch out for:

    Yale's senior mid Ali Cobbett.
    Hartford's senior mid Katherina Lindner.
    Nebraska's Christine Latham is a definite 1st-rounder.
Nebraska's & Canada's senior defender Breanna Boyd is being eyed by the folks from Long Island.

Sunday would be doable; on the R5 line when you get off at the Villanova station just get off the train and go forward (north?) and you'll see where cars go in and out of that part of the university where they have to check in with campus security. Stay left and the soccer field is about 200 yards away; you can't miss it.

Is it possible they'll be playing these games on the Charge/football field? There's a football game Saturday afternoon, so I suppose there isn't a time conflict.

The reason I mention this is I watched the Villanova v. Philly U. game on CN8 this weekend and the soccer fields look pretty chewed up. Add to it the current weather and having decent fields by this weekend might not be possible. Thus the possible moving of the games to the lovely turf.

It's 'Nova's last game of the year there, and I don't think there could be a conversion to soccer that quick, however..

    What times are the matches???

    Sunday I can make...

    Friday is out.

Also, where is the soccer field in relation to VILLANOVA stadium.

The directions provided are too cryptic.

I believe the NCAA has a rule on the host location not having turf. But maybe the NCAA has relaxed on that with FIFA approving FiledTurf.

My bet, game will be played on the regular 'Nova game fields. The game field was not looking good after that Phila U/'Nova men's game, but they still could move it over to the adjacent field.

And you will bet, even if 'Nova didn't charge during the regular season, the NCAA will have them out there charging an admission fee.

Argh. Not only do two of Penn's biggest rivals get to play in the Philly area this weekend, but Penn had a better Ivy League record than Yale by a significant margin and didn't make the tournamemt. Yale got in because they had a bunch of wins over patsy out-of-conference teams that boosted their overall record.

I guess I'll take 'Nova because I know a guy who used to play for them.

By the way, your discussion about Charge assistant coaches is quite interesting because Darren Ambrose, the Penn women's coach, is a Charge assistant and I would be interested to see what happens if another Big 5 coach ends up working with him.

Also slightly off-topic but it looks like Penn will be hosting the first round of the Men's College Cup on the 23-24 of November... if you guys could come out for that it would be great. PM me if you want more info.

    Nova game

Plus! Another good reason to show up for the games is, there maybe some Charge players still in the area going out to watch!

    Re: Nova game

There were multiple Charge players at the Penn-Cal Berkeley game, and I think Mark Krikorian has been here a few times this year scouting. I know I've seen him once.

Try that. Zoom into where it says "A"; that's the Villanova station on the R-5. Then follow the road to the West Campus, where the soccer field is on your left.

    :)

Also, if you are coming from Center City or some parts of the main line, the Route 100 light rail line from 69th Street stops near the Stadium from what I hear.

Yeah, but it'll add 15 minutes minimum walking time if you stop at the 'Stadium' station. I can't vouch for the next stop, which is 'Villanova', though. I've never gotten off there. :)

Note the past sveral weekend trains from MArket East to 30th street have been NOT working, with a shuttle bus in their place.

So I'd suggst going to 30th st to get to Radnor on the R5

OK, I'll be on the R5 leaving 30th st at 11:49 am and arriving at Villanova at 12:13 pm...

Don't forget the shuttle buses between Market East and 30th, so it's better going to 30th to start on the El.

Don't know yet, as the men's season isn't over and thus the draw hasn't been made yet.

By the way, slightly OT but look for a poster promoting the USA-El Salvador game Saturday morning on ESPN's College GameDay show, which will be broadcasting live from Franklin Field before the Penn-Harvard game.

Anybody here going down to DC on Sunday?

I'll be at Villanova on Sunday, but a guy I work with is going down.

    El Salvador??

Next summer in France, I'll be ready for the USMNT again, right now, they're out of my mind.

That's going to be until next March, actually, the next 22 weekends or so. There's overhead wire work that needs to be upgraded, but it'll be only on the weekends.

Of course, with a nor'easter coming and 3-4 inches of rain predicted for this weekend, one wonders if the second-round game will even take place Sunday.
