He wants a core of 15 players getting heavy minutes . He is not the GM , so honestly it don’t matter what he wants there are roster rules. Also Nancy said he would welcome quality players his point was truly that they don’t add players to add players and keep the maximum amount of players rostered. This whole thing yall argue is way overblown! Does he prefer to keep spots open yes? We added players and we had more than 15 players. The GM job is too add talent he works with Nancy it’s better if a GM and coach work together. But if you get good players Nancy won’t say no. We added plenty of marginal talent this year. Nancy doesn’t sit there and say we have 24 guys we can’t have anymore players im good Issa. Please everyone stop exaggerating this argument on both sides. It’s clear injuries have shown our depth is inadequate but it’s a salary cap preventing us from getting more talented depth. Nancy doesn’t need to do a better job building a bigger roster , Tall does. The failures of the last 2 seasons are 100% on the FO and 0% because Nancy demands a small roster. COACH SPEAK
Darlington is not a CAM although he use to be a more attacking player prior to Columbus. So they don’t play the same role in midfield they are both all time greats.
I'm comparing MLS Nagbe to MLS GBS, and that comparison isn't close. Besides nostalgia, there's no argument here.
You can believe whatever you want. I'll choose to believe the IW on here who actually works within the organization and sees how involved Nancy is in approving or vetoing based on how he rates players. I'll also choose to believe the other people I know who have direct connections into the front office that have independently corroborated the roster-building dynamic. On his first day in the organization, Bez showed Nancy his list of acquisition targets and Nancy drew a line through nearly all those names because they didn't meet his personal definition of "quality." Unlike Issa, Tim had a brilliant track record doing GM work. Nancy's resume by comparison was paper thin. Yet Nancy still got final say in most cases while Bez was here. It's gotten worse since Nancy has developed an ego while Tall is largely a pushover.
It’s tough to admit this because the holding mildfielder is my favorite position and Nagbe was the best in the league but Guille taught me that magic was possible. The best left tackle in the history of the game will still be favored less than the 15th best QB. TDs are more fun.
raising the standard , nothing wrong with that the self imposed spending restrictions is one of the most disturbing things a FO could ever speak on. You have to have a high % of success with your acquisitions but limiting yourself within an imaginary budget with a billionaire owner is beyond absurd. If I was Bez I would leave , If I was Nancy I would leave if a job was available that had a more serious commitment to winning. Wanting to be a top 4 team in a competitive Eastern Conference while failing to do what it takes is called blowing smoke. They want an attractive style of soccer and to make money. That’s exactly what we got the last 2 seasons. We continue to get worse and focus on selling out a stadium even if the fans aren’t actually in seats. This is not a sustainable model. Once Nancy leaves we are going to be fortunate to be mediocre, Get better players and make less excuses.
Stefanski *handshake* Nancy Not answering any questions Columbus Crew head coach Wilfried Nancy, when asked about rumors linking him with Celtic job and if he would be the Crew coach in 2026:“I'm not here to talk about myself. I have nothing to say about any kind of reports.” pic.twitter.com/SLY77wm2c8— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) November 13, 2025
Scottish media reporting that talks are now advanced, looking to be wrapped up this weekend. https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport.../wilfried-nancy-brink-celtic-manager-36249152
If it doesn't happen now, it will soon enough. Can't say I have much faith in Issa and Jimmy's capacity to lasso another top shelf manager. And, unlike when Sigi left, we don't have a Robert W. waiting in the wings. We had great luck with one Montreal manager, why not bring back Laurent Courtois? We might as well start ginning up a next head coach wish list.
Damet or Courtois are my top choices. Courtois likes more physical players than Nancy, which I dont mind. Problem is st. Louis might want him too. And maybe Courtois prefers Wray to Issa.
Courtois 100% should be considered. Cant hold what happened in Montreal against him at all, that place is rotten from the top down. The vibes were absolutely immaculate when he managed here with Crew2. Other than that, Jim Curtin will probably get an interview. His stock is pretty low right now after Philly let him go and not only didn’t miss a beat but already lifted a Shield.
The most fun 3 years of Crew soccer I’ve ever watched. So exhilarating and fun to be part of. Merci, Nancy.
I really don’t want to think too much about his departure. Its quite a gut punch. But it seems it’s finally time. Coming on the heels of Caleb Porter, who was a total butthole, and just so incredibly tactically deficient, having Nancy come in here was just beyond my wildest dreams. His game model changed what I thought was possible in this league. The run through CCC in ‘24, winning in Mexico in STYLE, our team getting applauded off the field after winning down there, was the pinnacle of my Crew fandom. The Cup win in ‘23 was my favorite of all 3 this team has won. Its so easy to be pessimistic after the disappointing season that just wrapped up, and focus on what went wrong and what needs fixed. But Wilfred Nancy is an absolute legend for what he did here, and I’ll never ever forget the heights he reached.
