question So this is going to be a naive question, and a little too little and a little too late. But what the hell. I'm pissed it's not being broadcast in English, or on a channel I get. Who controls the broadcast rights on this tournament in the U.S., anyway?
SAS - Check out the Business & Media forum - I think the Telefutura thread has the answers you are looking for.
A link that provides some Spanish vocab. Thanks to lond2345, who dug it up. https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=53277
Re: question i don't think you need an english announcer, what the announcer says is actualy what you see on the screen, i myself like a spanish announcer, its more exciting especialy when there's a goal he'll loudly yell : goooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal.......... its so unbelievably cool !
Big Soccer Discussion on Galavision and Telefutura Galavision is cable. On my cable it's basic cable. Telefutura is broadcast, but doesn't reach all areas.
i do not get any of these channels...thefore... i need someone willing to tape the matches and then send them to me via the u.s. postal service <or i can get you a ups code and you can overnight them to me> so i can get the goal clips on-line for the us soccer fans to see... anyone wanna help me out with this? pm me.
Just because I was confused, and I'm sure others are too, here's some info for New Yorkers. Anyone with Time-Warner cable in NYC gets all of these channels. Therefore any bar in the city would probably get them too. Univision: channel 41 (broadcast, WXTV) Galavision: channel 53 (cable) TeleFutura: channel 68 (broadcast, WFUT) (These are the channel numbers for Time-Warner digital cable in Manhattan).
What about TV for the Semis and Finals. Any English speaking TV going to carry our victories in either of these two games? I'm not fortunate enough to get any of the Spanish stations here in Greenville, SC.
These are the same numbers for Brooklyn. I'm pretty sure that Telefutura and Univision are both over the air channels, so rabbit ears should be enough to receive both. I'm not sure who besides TWC receives Gala.
Unfortunately, the first post in this thread is all we are likely to have. You might consider starting a thread in the USA fans section to see if anyone in your area will be having a viewing party.
For once I can't be upset with no english language broadcasts, cause I'm going to be there! WOOHOO!! Well, only all the first round games being held in Lyon, but that means two U.S. matches and I get to see France vs. a decent opponant in France. Not too bad! Still, no english in the U.S. is absolute bullcrap.
I could not care less what language these games are shown in. What I do care about is who exactly are we sending to France to play brazil and Turkey?
Pardon my ignorance, but do the reserves (Garcia, Mulrooney, Ralston) travel with the USMNT or do they remain in the US with their clubs and go to France only if a roster player is injured?
Probably nobody knows this, but I have to ask the question... What about the TV rights, internationally? And specifically, here in Australia? Wouldn't surprise me if SBS has it in some way shape or form-- but then again, I haven't heard hide nor hair about what's going on... if anyone's got any info on this, let me know. Would love to see the games, and especially the Americans.
found out that in the UK the Confed CUp will be on Eurosport. thats all i know as far as international rights goes.
In Argentina, and in most of South America, all the games will be broadcast free for subscribers on Direct TV.
US Soccer should really do something about this. At least for the games they play in. That said, I enjoy the spanish announcers as well.
Any chance that if the Nats are tearing through the tournament ESPN or some other channel buys the English language rights for the Qtrs, Semis or Finals? Or can they not do that once the tournament has started? I don't get Galavision? DO you think any bars will be showing the matches, even if they are being broadcast in spanish?
I don't think there is much chance of another channel buying rights in the middle of the tournament, but you should pose this question, if it hasn't already been asked on the Telefutura thread on Business & Media (https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=52034). It may be remotely possible that FSW will have rights to replays. I'm sure there will be places to watch in NYC area, especially since it's a regular cable channel and given the time of day that they games will be on. Call one of the pubs like Nevada Smiths that are football friendly or call a sports bar with lots of tvs and ask them if they would be willing to put it on one of their tvs. Or maybe try a Mexican restaurant with a tv. Illusiones in Astoria has tvs and shows games when they are on, but the bar side may be closed during the day. They have a tiny bar area at the Mexican restaurant next door where, IIRC, I watched a gold cup game while waiting for them to open up Illusiones.
