If form holds, this will provide some great matchups in the semis:

    Mexico vs Germany
    Argentina vs Brazil

    Can't wait!

Some of you guys could be a tad surprised.

    :p

If you care to have a look at the 2001 & 1997 Confeds Cups results, you'll see that "minnow" Australia did quite well at the semi-final & final levels of those competitions, unlike our cousins NZ in 2003 and 1999.

Yep, but in 1997. After drawing with Brazil in the group round of games, AUS beat Uruguay in the semi's only to get the Brazilian bib & bub act going full-bore in the final !!! Uruguay had their revenge on AUS in the 2001 WCQ's (Oceania v South America playoffs).

It was a better tournament result for AUS in 2001 beating both Brazil & France in the group round of games but fell to Japan in the semi's. Won 3rd spot in the playoff game.

It's the best (toughest) competition for a minnow like AUS, especially with the upcoming 4-yearly sh!tfight with the South American representative shortly thereafter.

Truth is that Brazil will send B team for sure.
Ronaldo and kaka will never participate.
Serie-A team will not release them.

Also Greece won't surprise us at all.

It's in June. The Serie A season will be over. Of course, that doesn't mean Brazil will choose them.

Yeah, I think you're right. I think it's a bit too early to say this team will do well and this team won't. Mexico has to play against Japan who went out in the second round of WC02, just like Mexico, and Greece who won Euro 2004, enough said. It should be a competitive tournament for sure.

It would be good for Brazil to send some of their top players. There will be no conflict with the leagues and it's in Europe. I'd love to see Kaka play.

I would also think that Germany will send their A team, seeing as how it'll be their only meaningful tournament from now til WC06.

Being the tournament which it is and the importance it seems to have, I think there is a very good chance brazil will send a mixed team with possibly one or two star players inthe likes of Adriano and maybe kaka. Something similar to the copa america team. It is almost certain that the likes of Roberto carlos, cafu, Ronaldo, ronaldinho, Lucio and Dida will not be there. This could be a great chance to test some new players like Julio Baptista, Daniel, maxwell.
