What a joke if it happens again.

Does it really matter what Conmebol do with their tournaments? They can hold it whereever they want and invite whoever they want.

Well it is terrible for fans who have to travel all the way to the USA from South America. Very unfair if you ask me.

Meanwhile, European fans will be enjoying the EUROS in a convenient location at very reasonable costs: ticket prices have been frozen from EURO 2024 and 40% of the 3m tickets available will be in the cheapest price category.

Just a reminder that the core mandate of CONMEBOL is to lead sports entertainment in South America. Moving their biggest tournament out of South American permanently seems to go against that mandate.

Another thing that people tend to forget is that, like FIFA, CONMEBOL is a non-profit organization.

I strongly disagree. We are talking about a competition organized by a South American governing body for South American fans. A diaspora population in the USA is not a like-for-like replacement.

I'm open-minded to host every other Copa America in the USA (as part of a permanent deal?), but depriving the South American fan for what would be 13 years (the last non-Covid Copa was in 2019) is morally bankrupt not to mention greedy beyond belief.

Yeah, I saw that news too. Not only 3m available at the cheapest category but same ticket prices overall as the 2024 Euros.

Am looking forward to this tournament already. It will be challenging to get tickets though.

Looking forward to a O-O draw between Kazakstan and Romania in the “beautiful” city of Birmingham. (Or something like that quality. )

CONMEBOL fans need to suck it up. With this next cycle having 30 % of teams qualifying automatically it makes it more important to have as many official matches as possible.
In the USA you can have a 16 team tournament and it will be successful. Heck, the Confederations may make it 24 teams like the Euros.
Cannot do that in South America without it being less profitable. And the stands would be mostly empty in South America.

Feel free to watch Gold Cup replays instead.

How much longer do they need to suck it up? 2032? 2036? Forever?

I love me some Gold Cups. Especially in beautiful American cities.

How much longer? Well, when they can logically afford it and have a regular type of qualifying schedule would make sense. *shrugs*

How is it supposed to work? They can make it work. I am not sure what AFCON or OFC has to do with anything.

The last time I checked Ecuador wants to host it. It's not like there is no Conmebol bidder.

Fair enough. I thought you are warming up the Super Gold Cup idea again with other confederations. I actually support a permanent 24-team Copa America (with the Gold Cups taken off the calendar).

Ecuador cannot host a successful 16 team or 24 teams like the tournament.

Hell yeah! Please let us have a corrupt confed like Conmebol endanger US citizens' lives again, like it did during 2024 Copa America.

Also, COL fed president's son got away scot-free after assaulting stadium security staff during the 2024 CA final... Some animals are more equal than others.

One freak accident of a match out of the 64 Copa America matches played in the USA.
There were no other incidents this badly. And You would think they have learned to get better security next tine. Sheesh.

    No consultation with other stakeholders?

I can only wonder where Motsepe learned that approach.
