Greenie's house. Seriously though, you'll probably be able to catch the games at either the Nutty Irishman or at the Lazy Dog.
Just Curious!?! I am wondering why USMNT matches against such notable teams as Turkey, Brazil, and Cameroon don't rate viewing on English speaking channels, yet USWNT and other USMNT friendlies are shown on ESPN/2? I wrote to Fox Sportsworld, which has a spot entitled International Soccer TBA on some of the dates, but got no response back. I will watch in Spanish or Lower Peruvian, but I was just curious why games against soccer notables don't rate viewing. Here is a link to the viewing schedule I found on USSoccer http://www.ussoccer.com/schedule/content.sps?iType=4079&icustompageid=6485
Regarding no ESPNs showing the matches: Probably production and (potential) travel costs for matches that viewed live fall right in mid work day, but I digress since I don't have inner working knowledge of it. Could be a rights issue too. Too costly for a lesser known tournament? Again, I can only speculate. Anyway, I'll look into the Nutty. If they have Telefutura, I'll be there next Saturday, barring being told next week at work to get on a plane to points unknown.
Cheers for the info I'll definately check out the Nutty Irishman. My freaking apt. complex has an exclusive contract with US Online (so no Comcast) which doesn't have Galavision. And I face NW so I can't even get DirecTV or Dish. I'm out of work right now, so I'll be checking the games live at least. Anyone else going to be there?
The number given on this page is disconnected. I'll keep looking into it, and give em a call to make sure it's good.
Re: Go, US! Just found out that The Nutty Irishman is no mas! No wonder the number from 411 was disconnected. The Lazy Dog were about as helpful as a fart in a spacesuit. They transferred me twice then the nonce at the other end of the line still couldn't tell me if he got Galavision - said he had never heard of it. I could almost see the pained expression through the phone line when I mentioned 'Confederation Cup'. Makes you wonder when you keep reading all these threads about how far the game has come in this country. The best I've got so far is Bennigan's in Broomfield (nr. Flatirons Mall). Yeah, sad I know, but they were very nice in there and went through every channel to see if they had it. So, being as the Mrs and I are new to the area and barring any other suggestions (Greenie?), it's Bennigan's for us. Hopefully we'll see some of you there - chili? Oh and we'll probably be there nearly EVERY night unfortunately as I really don't want to miss very many of the games in the tourney (well at least those in our group). Now Telefutura.. well that's another story.
telefutura any chance any pub in Denver will carry the Brazil match? I'm fine with the Galavision, if I can figure out what CO gets (the East feed or the West feed, I hope the West, as I prefer Snoop Dogg to P. Diddy)
Re: Re: Go, US! First off, in the Denver area just go to Aztec Sol. They'll have the game for sure. It's not that hard to work with people, and can you blame a guy for not being familiar with channels like Galavision or Telefutura? I just called the Dog myself and left a simple message for the manager: please have someone check on the availability of Galavision and Telefutura and call me back. I've been to countless games at the Dog where I just show up and ask them to put the game on. Yeah, it may take a bit of channel surfing but there's a big difference with your actually being there, money in hand, asking for a game, versus calling on the phone. This goes for any establishment, really. The guys that know all the channels on their satellite systems and more improtantly, how to tune them in, may not be available the moment you call. A lot of times these guys are the managers or senior bartenders and it's not unusual that they're too busy to poke through their channel guides. All I'm saying is that if we want better soccer coverage in bars, it needs to go both ways. Fans need to be as helpful and patient as possible when contacting places to inquire about certain games -- for example, pop on over to www.soccertv.com before calling, and look up Galavision or Telefutura. SoccerTV will list the channel #s on Dish, DirecTV, C-Band, and anything else. If you've got that info, it'll be a lot easier for places like the Lazy Dog to let you know what they can do. Despite what people think, the majority of sports bars in Colorado are very interested in showing soccer (except for ESPNZone). This is especially the case for live matches that take place during the day. I only bring this up because I'm tired of having heard so much whining from people over the years claiming that everyone hates soccer and no bars will ever show it -- when in reality, the only time I've ever run into trouble getting the game on was at Croc's with a bunch of Ohio State fans. Even then, smarter Rapids fans than me simply walked down the street to Old Chicago and caught the game in its entirety.
I am going to be in Mexico for the Confed Cup. Is Univision(the parent company of Galavision, and Telefutura) a Mexican company, or A US based Latino station? I am hoping for the former so I can Watch the games from Puerto Vallarta...(the wife doesnt know this yet of course)
Re: Re: Re: Go, US! Depends on the people you're working with. And yes I can blame the guy. If you're in the business of running a 'sports' bar, I would assume one of the items on your job description would be familiarising yourself with the channels and sports you have for your customers viewing pleasure - it's hardly rocket science. Let us know the outcome. Please, it doesn't NEED to go both ways or at least it shouldn't. It's not up to the customer to preguess their satellite/cable systems. Yes, it would probably make things easier but if they haven't even heard of Galavision then I'm hardly inspired with confidence that'll they'll be able to come up with the goods on game day. I understand where you're coming from and you can call it whining if you want but I'm pretty sure you weren't privy to the conversation. I stand by my initial assessment of the Lazy Dog's management - apathetic, unhelpful and uninterested. Well, surprise, surprise it goes both ways. I've got to believe that there are more 'soccer-friendly' bars out there that would welcome the business.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Go, US! No, it's not rocket science. It's soccer. A tournament that most people don't care about, that hasn't been getting too much American press, and that isn't even having games involving the USA broadcast in English. TeleFutura is a channel that only began showing up on satellite and cable systems within the past month. Galavision in the past few months. If nobody's asked them to tune into it before, just why should they be aware of it? Hell, just cruise around the BS boards and you see more than a few frequent viewers wondering just what the hell TeleFutura and Galavision are. It's just like the Rapids putting occasional games on the public access cable channel; even hardened TV watchers on this board had great difficulty locating it on their dial, thanks in large part to the cable provider telling people there is no such channel. Perhaps if we were talking about Fox Sports World or even Gol Network, then I'd tend to agree with you. But hey, if you think sports bar managers should be all-knowing about programming that nobody asks for, I won't stop you. And the bar doesn't NEED to show the game for the benefit of 3 or 4 people (or less). Look, whether you like it or not, soccer is not something that is in great demand when it comes to television viewing -- whether at home or in a bar. If you want to go somewhere to watch relatively obscure games -- and yes, the Confed Cup is relatively obscure -- there's going to be some effort involved. That was my bad, I didn't mean to imply that YOU were whining. Only that a lot of people have whined about not being able to watch these games in the past, without having gone through the effort you did. I won't argue that you had a less-than-satisfactory call with the Lazy Dog. I will only point out that I have had the same -- or worse -- experience when trying to call "soccer friendly" establishments like Fado or even Aztec Sol. And to be honest, I'll take sitting on hold and needing to call back versus the quick "yeah, sure. come on down." I can't even count the number of times I've been told some place will show a game, only to arrive and learn that they can't get the channel or are blacked out. All I'm saying is that we're talking about a still less-than-popular professional sport being broadcast on channels that few people know about. You can throw your hands up in the air or give it another try. And I thought you'd have been in Colorado long enough by now to know better. As stated above, you can count on Aztec Sol and that's about it. Otherwise, if they get the channel then I can guarantee you that the Lazy Dog in Boulder will show the game, even if just one person is there to watch it. And given the game times and lack of competition on the airwaves, I'd wager you would be able to get the game on at most any sports bar with multiple TV feeds.
Re: Re: Go, US! 5 pm Thursday, I'll be there. Possibly on Monday too. Second one on this list (http://yp.superpages.com/listings.p...&N=bennigans&T=broomfield&S=CO&search=Find+It) right?
Re: Re: Re: Re: Go, US! Message today from someone at the Dog saying that yes they get Galavision and would be happy to put the games on.
Re: Re: Re: Go, US! Nice one, actually though that isn't the one I checked out. It's the other side of 36 from there, very near to the Flatirons Mall. It must be new as it's not in the yellow pages either. I'll try and get the exact address and phone number today and post it here later. Greenie, very glad to hear that the Lazy Dog has Galavision. What did they say about Telefutura?
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Go, US! FWIW, Comcast Digital Cable has Galavision at Channel 83... haven't found a Telefutura in the listing, though there are a few Univision affiliates and Telemundo.
Telefutura is channel 10 on Comcast Digital Cable, it used to be a homeshopping network, so you prob skipped over it.
Capone... you rock! Flipped to 10, the Tivo tells me it's HSN, and sure enough... I'm watching highlights from NZ/Japan! Thanks!
If people aren't going to the Bennigan's I'll go to the Lazy Dog. Doesn't matter to me, though I generally keep the first plans whenever possible.
You don't even need cable to get Telefutura... It is an over the air channel on 14 VHF. I can get it very clearly from the South Denver metro area.
