For me: 4/18 Leftover Salmon Zydeco(B'ham,AL) 5/24 The Great High Mountain tour(Allison Krauss, Norman Blake, Ralph Stanley, Tim Eriksen and more) Von Braun Civic Center(Huntsville,AL) 5/27 Del McCoury Zydeco(B'ham,AL) 6/2 Angie Aparo WorkPlay(B'ham,AL)
Well, it's not in the immediate future but this weekend I got my tickets for the Pixies...Wednesday, October 13th at the Fox Theatre.
I will go to all of those (Angie Aparo is doubtful) add to that list P.O.D. - Sloss Furnaces (Birmingham, AL) Sound Tribe Sector Nine - WorkPlay (Birmingham, AL) Bonnaroo Festival (Manchester, TN)
My namesake should be touring soon as their new album has just dropped. From what I've experienced in previous BR shows, they usually only play one or two new songs and stick to the old stuff for the rest of the show. Always a pleasure to hear some of the old stuff...
My friend and I are driving to Hollywood this weekend to see the Wildhearts. They're opening for BigSoccer's favorite band, the Darkness. But the Wildhearts are putting my butt in that seat.
Pixies, Thursday, Doris Knight Hall. Regina. Yeah I'm just a little excited. I actually saw POD pre-fame at a weird Christian youth event I was covering in a small town near where I live. They were quite good, but my expectations were really low (ie I'd never heard of them and I'm not Christian) so maybe that's why I was impressed. I'm thinking of going to see the Distillers. Anyone seen them? I'm not a big fan, but I like most of the singles, but they look like they have the potential to sound like a train wreck live. cheers, hobbes
Its still a ways away but, Big Wu's Family Reunion on Memorial day weekend. Three days of awesome music and tons of hippy fun.
Beyonce, Missy Elliot and Alicia Keys this Saturday @ the Pond don't laugh....I'm taking my Goddaughter to see the Wiggles at the Long Beach Arena on 4/25!! Prince-May 24th @ the Arrowhead Pond Sarah McClachlan-Jul 13th also @ the Pond Britney Spears August 7th in Irvine I'm going to try to see Dave Matthews sometime this summer. I've never seem him before. I'll probably travel somewhere to see the Indigo Girls somewhere...and if anyone is playing in Blaine on the weekend of the Women's Soccer festival, I'm sure I'll go to that, too!
It was the Quannum World Tour, Shadow was kind of in the background and out of the 30-35 songs they rolled out, maybe 5-6 were actual DJ Shadow songs. Mostly they were Quannum, Blackalicious, Lyrics Born, Lateef or Lifesavas songs and it was excellent. Played about a 3 hour set. One cool thing, DJ Shadow now has a DVD turntable. Basically, he scratches different DVD samples throughout the show, it's pretty cool. I saw DJ Shadow solo when he toured in 2002, and I would highly, highly recommend seeing him solo if he ever tours that way again. Here's the remaining dates on the Quannum tour. Apr 16th - Factory - Philadelphia Apr 18th - 930 - DC Apr 19th - Irving Plaza - NYC Apr 21st - Earthlink Live - Atlanta Apr 22nd - Twiropa - New Orleans - PVAN, maybe you could catch either of these from Alabama?? I drove 2 hrs. from northern NH to Boston and it was worth the trip. Apr 23rd - Stubbs - Austin Apr 25th - Filmore - Denver Apr 26th - Sunshine - Alburque Apr 27th - Marquee - Phoenix Apr 29th - House of Blues-9pm - Los Angeles Apr 30th - House of Blues-11PM - Los Angeles May 1st - Warfield - San Francisco
Wolf Trap Farm Park is the greatest outdoor venue in the DC area. Where else can you walk in with a cooler full of beer and food and camp out on the lawn and see some great artists perform? So far I've scored tickets to the following shows..... Johnny Lang June 11th Shaggy on July 3rd B-52s July 26th Gipsy Kings July 28th Itzhak Perlman August 5th John Prine August 27th B.B. King and Dr. John August 29th
Actually a little of both Wolf Trap is an awsome venue with alot of great variety. They are close to where I work and can get in and out of pretty easily. The Filene Center is absolutely beautiful tucked in what used to be Virginia Hunt country. Nothing better than sitting on the lawn on a nice summer night listening to some good tunes. Check them out at www.wolf-trap.org/ What's truly amazing is that it's run by the National Park Service!
