I feel that when it comes to what teams here in the US should go to the CONCANCAF Cup, I think it should be the winner of the MLS Cup and the US open cup.

That and why cant there just be a Americas Champions League, you can than have a huge tournement just like europes. I can tell you I would like to see the Red Bulls getting to play teams like River Plate, Boca Juniors, Santos and other South American power houses. Hey if the Mexicans can play down there, why in the hell cant the MLS teams? Its about time to really make the MLS a league to be followed and if one could win a tourny like that, then the world really would follow the MLS.

Or instead, they could give one of the spots to the team that played best over a long term season and won a major award called the Supporters' Shield rather than a team that won a handful of games, some against lower division teams, and many against/using reserves. I mean, considering that we haven't been able to win the CCC in a while, you'd think we'd want to send the best team rather than one that had a few good games.

    But to each their own.

Not for nothing, but the Shield winners have invariably flopped in the following season (see: DC, 2007). They are by no means the best team when the CCC comes around.

Agreed, due to the high level of parity in MLS and a low enough talent level that year by year fluctuations in performance greatly affect teams.

But my point still remains that it makes more sense to reward a team that had a strong season and is more likely to be good the following year than one who merely had a few good games -- that most likely were won by reserves anyway.

I'd have less problem giving one of the SuperLiga spots to the USOC winner, though I prefer the current system.

That, and also by using the US Open Cup, you run the risk of a USL team getting into the CCC, and Toronto is boned, cause they have one less chance than everybody else.

If all clubs could cover the cost of travel...

An "Americas Champions League" would be pretty awesome.

Before we even think of having a MLS team play in a south american tournament like the libertadores or copa sudamericana, or any other version, we need to consistently make the CCC finals and we need to win a few Superligas, how about just winning in Mexico. I think an Americas Champions league would be great be first the MLS has to be able to ensure that they would be serious contenders year in year out, and we all need to be on the same season schdule.

The Superliga is poised to supplant the CCC. I think we'll see more countries get involved in Superliga, since the TV deal, organization and monetary rewards are all superior to CCC.

Unlikely that it wouild truly replace the CCC as a continental competition. The SuperLiga is a money making/marketing tool for SUM/MLS and Mexico. The only way additional teams get added is if they will add to revenue. There really is limited revenue potential in adding clubs from the Carribean or Centrla America due to the small populations and weaker economies in those places.

I think we are more likely to see teams form Brazil or Argentina added to SuperLiga than from elsewhere in Concacaf.
