3-0 to Grenada...off a corner kick apparently there is a fight on the field apparently... no cards? Guyana needs at least one goal... pressing for it...
Sounds like a great game, i got kicked off the server and haven't been able to get back on to listen to the game. Server must be full now.
gooooal! Ricky Charles! Grenada 5-0. Other goals: N Bishop (39') K Phillip (44') A Augustine (79') A Modeste (85') Guyana keeper was red carded in the 76th minute. and that's a FT result now. Grenada 5, Guyana 0
Ricky Charles is on FIRE!!! scores another goal and is dominating in Guyana's end. Grenada 5 - 0 Guyana P.S - After much trying i'm back on the server...thank god. Guyana is in tough 5 goals down will be difficult to come back from. They will need to clear 6 goals at home...that's a tall order.
The red card on the Guyana keeper, which was the turning point in the game, came when Ricky Charles took a pass behind the defense, and the keeper brought him down outside the area. One of the radio announcers thought Charles had been offside. Bad break for Guyana, who had played well to that point; if they had kept the score at 0-2, they might have had a chance in the return leg.
As an Aruba fan, where/how do you get all your information on the team? I'd like to find out more about them.
Several of you have mentioned that Ricky Charles has scored a goal (or 2?). The match report at FIFA doesn't have him scoring any. http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/t/sc/detail.html?id=2338243&year=2004&month=2&day=28 Here are the goal scorers they list: N Bishop (39') K Phillip (44') A Augustine (79') A Modeste (85') D Rennie (90')
Yeah JBG...that's odd, cause I was listening to the radio broadcast on the internet, as where a few others, and they had mentionend that Ricky Charles had scored the 1st and 5th goals? Unless the fifa Tracker isn't accurate, there does seem to be an inconsistancy here. I don't believe the posters could all be wrong, we all heard what we heard on that broadcast.
gohb, the only reason i know this little about Aruba is only because i have supported them since 1998 and have followed whatever little information leeks into the media every so often. Bom Dia Aruba online paper used to cover them often, and through the help of web translation sites i was able to gather tidbits here and there. Now information has been reduced to a trickle and is very difficult to find anywhere on the web. So needless to say it is extremely frustrating for a fan like me not be on top of the Aruban game, just because of the lack of information out there.
I'm hoping you're right about Charles and scoring some goals. I've been trying to keep tabs on him since the Charleston Battery drafted him. I'm hoping he's a stud.

If I'm reading my Dutch correctly, this account says Zinhagel came in after the first goal was scored. This would contradict the stats on the FIFA site, which show Zinhagel entering at the beginning of the second half. By the way, concacafguy, I found out a few details on the Aruban side (you probably know them already). Not only Pantophlet but also Juan Geerman are holdovers from the 1998 side; also, Maurice Escalona and Enrique Zschuschen come from the amateur Dutch leagues. Celaire was named Aruban league defender of the year in 2002.

http://www.spiceisle.com/grenadasports/Media/SBoyz.asx Team song for Grenada (think "Football's Coming Home" for England). Still slightly better then the Phillips US Soccer Chant.
For those who have been following the games on the FIFA matchtracker, by now it's become obvious that they're not always accurate. They seem to get the score right, but lineups, goal scorers, cards, substitution times, etc. are often wrong. If you want the revised versions, the best place to go is http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/t/match/index.html where you can get the official match reports. But even then they're not 100% reliable: I've seen some misspelled names, and a couple of places where the goalscorers contradict the accounts in online newspapers. So who knows?
