Does anybody know who, if any, US referees were working this tournament? It was being played in Florida.
Just skimming through game results on Concacaf's website, I saw: Ismail Elfath, Jair Marrufo, Armando Villarreal, Frank Anderson, Ian Anderson, Kyle Atkins. .
Which is a reason why all have been absent from recent MLS assignments. I don't think any have worked in May, with the Andersons now back on duty for this weekend.
Seems like the PRO ranks will be stretched pretty thin this summer. You have the CONCACAF U17, U20 World Cup, Women's World Cup, and Gold Cup all this summer. And don't forget the normal preseason friendlies that get played here is the US, including the ICC. Should be a busy summer for a lot of folks.
According to Wikipedia, 4 of the 39 games had American referees. Given what MJ91 said, more games had American ARs or 4Os.
Or the tournament was also being used by CONCACAF as a training event for its Elite referees in prep for Gold Cup. These aren’t exactly the officials you truly need on matches with 16 year olds. Look at how the other confederations approach their U17s.
