Club 1. Toluca 2. Pachuca Pachuca won more international titles, but the Toluca of 2000 and 2002 would destroy any pachuca team of the decade, as well as any other team in Concacaf. 1. Toluca 2. Pachuca 3. Club America Club America in third because after the Toluca teams of 2000 and 2002. The Club America team of 2005 is probably the 3rd best in Concacaf of the decade; they had like a 32 game unbeaten streak. plus in the decade America won two mexican league championships, they won the CCC in 06, 3 time semifinalist in Copa libertadores, and a 2nd place finish in the Copa Sudamericana. National Team 1. Mexico 2. U.S. 3. Costa Rica and while we are at all these number 1 of the decades Coach 1. Javier Aguirre 2. Enrique Meza 3. Bruce arena referee 1. Armando Archundia 2. Marco Rodriguez 3. Carlos Batres
What about national teams? I think Mexico is the team of the decade in CONCACAF because of their achievements in WC's, GC, and Copa America. The CC not extremely impressive, but Mexico did represent CONCACAF. In 02 and 06, Mexico advanced to the round of 16. Mexico topped the group of death in 02. In 03 and 09, Mexico won the Gold Cup. In 01 Mexico was 2nd place in Copa America. In 07 Mexico was 3rd place in Copa America. In 05 Mexico was 4th in the Confederations Cup.
Nice, you're 2 steps ahead of me. I agree with the placing of America, I think they deserve some credit for playing with the CONMEBOL teams and doing fairly well.
That would be the only reason you could put down cruz azul in this category. Can't say anything else about them.
Best CONCACAF ref I´m assuming that was a joke. De los Cobos and Maradiaga deserve honorable mention as coaches.
Best showing by a CONCACAF team in WC ~ US WC 2002 team (quarters) Best showing by a CONCACAF team in a worldwide FIFA tournament (place wise) ~ US 2009 CC team (2nd.) Most GC wins by a CONCACAF GC team ~ US (3 wins) Qualified the most times to the WC ~ Mexico & US (3 times) Won the Hex the most times ~ US (2 times) Had the highest piont total afer the Hex ~ Costa Rica 2002 (23 points) The highest piont total after 3 Hex's ~ US (59 points) The highest finish by a CONCACAF team in the Club WC ~ Necaxa & Saprissa (3rd. place) Qualified the most times to the Club WC ~ Pachuca (3 times) These are full mens teams I am talking about. I am not picking teams, just facts.
Thanks for bringing up these facts. I have an issue with including the hex in these facts because the whole purpose of the hex is to qualify for the WC. Winning the hex is just for show. After a country qualifies for the WC in the hex, they tend to play a B team or play a more relaxed game. Key players are usually excluded in the games that follow automatic qualification. There's more of an incentive to keep players healthy and maybe give some subs some playing time than to win the remaining qualifying games.
It´s a shame, actually. They started out with a lot of promise by winning the Gold Cup in 2000 against teams with much more individual talent. Now that they actually have that talent for some reason things aren´t clicking.
As a team, yes. But if they could keep their best players from suiting up for other national teams and organize the talent they already have, they could at least be a serious World Cup Qualifying or Gold Cup contender.
Are you kidding me? That would mean they'd qualify for the WC at your teams expense. I don't see Canada taking out Costa Rica in the next 2 or 3 WC editions. Maybe in 10 WC editions.
I said a serious qualifying contender (as in making the final hex in place of either El Salvador or Trinidad,) that´s all. They´re several notches below both the USMNT and MNT. We´re usually a WCQ favorite, not a contender.
Oh okay, yes I misunderstood. Ya I could see them taking the place of ES or T&T soon. It's usually Mex, US, CR for CONCACAF anyway.
I agree that Mexico slightly edges out the US as team of the decade given their overall performances in international tournaments. On the Canada front I feel that a strong Canada would benefit the region as a whole. After the top 4 there is a pretty big drop off.
Match of the decade: World Cup 2002 2nd round: USA vs Mexico Player of the decade: Rafa Marquez. No one else has come close to achieving what he has achieved at the club level. Honorable mention to David Suazo and Brian McBride.
Part of that could be simply attributed to CONCACAF member countries. Outside of the US and Mexico (and those zany under performing Canadians), every member in the region is either small in population, poor, or both. This leads to less stability in their national teams and likely greater fluctuation because they have less wiggle room in terms of player development. The vastly different fortunes of Honduras and Trinidad and Tobago and their 2006 and 2010 campaigns speak to this. Its actually pretty impressive Costa Rica has been able to maintain a relatively high level of performance for several cycles. But yeah, Canada is the best candidate to become a permanent hexagonal fixture.
Here are some more facts Most points by a Concacaf team in a WC (Mex 7pts.
