Does anyone know when this schedule will be coming out? It would be interesting to see what happens as July looks to be a busy month for all of us and I believe that the US Open Cup, and the Confederations cup will be playing the 2nd phase of this tourney then. How is this Years Cup set up? Round Robin 4 groups of 4? Or will be be home and home through the end?
CCC I keep checking the CONCACAF website, but there's nothing there yet. It's not even clear to me if the qualifying slots are filled. Back in mid-December they said the draw "would be held soon." With the Gold Cup taking up July, you would think the FC would try to start the CCC matches in the spring--and that's not very far off, is it?
Last I heard the CCC was going to be a knockout tournament of home and home legs, so the Revs would have at least one "home" game vs someone. Craig T indicated that the Revs would likely play this (and others, including Open Cup) in other sites around New England, such as New Britain, Providence or Ludlow. Of course, all this information is subject to change, so who knows what will eventually happen. Tom
None of us fans, that's for sure. CONCACAF typically announces some big plan, then backs way off of that when the clubs point out that they don't give a rip. Maybe this time they are checking with the clubs first, but I kind of doubt it. When you think about it, two teams in the final asking if it can be reduced to one leg, is an absolute disgrace. I'd be surprised if they were able to schedule anything round robin. The interest is just not there (and that includes US attendance).
Andy Mead said February 26th and March 12th from CONCACAF.com, but I couldn't find it. The only thing I saw was that it started in February, but we already knew that. I would imagine we'd be away first?
Aren't we spending at least half of February in Brazil? I wonder how the cup rosters work. We'll probably have a few guys in camp trying out for roster spots in February, like draft picks. Who are we allowed to play?
I think there are different roster rules for tournaments. I don't remember the details, but one of the teams in a Concacaf cup (Metros maybe?) had at least one player who wasn't on their MLS roster. In this case, teams could have like a 25 man pool, so to bring in an extra guy that they were thinking of signing and giving him a run against decent competition would make a lot of sense. Tom
The dates are listed on the cover of the December CONCACAF newsletter. Check out the .pdf version. I've since seen another reference suggesting that those dates may slip, or may already have slipped.
It's supposed to be 16 team knock-out like last year. That worked pretty well so they might as well stick with it. CONCACAF dates don't mean anything, the matches will be played when the clubs feel like it.
