Group Stage for the new '08-'09 CONCACAF Champion's League starts in September, so I guess that will mean that the Dynamo will be in that as well. Preliminary Round starts end of August.

This is problematic. We can not slip up in the beginning of the MLS season in order that we can afford to drop a few games during the group stages. Also, I think USOC and maybe SuperLiga are going to be for the reserves at this point.

Superliga better not be for the reserves. That is probably more important than CONCACAF CL and Open Cup combined.

I think this CONCACAF CL is stupid, get rid of the Champions Cup if you have CL.

Our players will be dead by November.

They are getting rid of the Champions Cup. The Champions League is replacing the Champions Cup.

You also cannot seriously claim the CCL is less important than the SuperLiga. A ticket to the Club World Cup is less important than winning a friendly tournament between teams from 2 countries?

No. Not just no, but hell no.

What are you kidding, do you know what's at stake? SuperLiga is a just some glorified set of friendlies. The money? Who cares? I want the Big show, the World Club Cup. That's a chance to play some of the biggest dogs in the world, and there's always a shot at immortality with a Cinderella story.

If I was Dom I'd ask to get out of SuperLiga so we could spend more effort on CCL.

i hope we don't play superliga in favor of CCL.
if the Mexican teams are going to shun it, we have every right to help kill it off.

and yeah, please start reading threads before forming opinions, the CL is replacing CCC.

Everyone seems to be assuming that the U.S. entries will be Houston (MLS Cup winner) and DC (Supporter's Shield winner) going directly to the group stage with New England (MLS CUP runner-up) and Chivas USA (Supporter's Shield runner-up) entering the preliminary round. I don't know if there is any official confirmation of that.

Canada has announced a plan to have a qualification process from among TFC and the Canadian USL teams, Montreal and Vancouver.

    Montreal Gazette article

I'm pretty sure the A-League teams go into the Asian confederation champions league competition.

USL used to be called the A-League until 2004, I think that's what metroag was referring to. He just likes to kick it old school.

    Re: Concacaf Champions League 2008-2009

I think MLS Cup and SS are pretty much guaranteed to be the two group stage slots. After that, I think seeing the USOC winner for one and the SS runner up for the other is good idea, mostly because we dont have relegation so its the only fair way to give USL teams any shot ever.

edit: maybe instead of SS and runner up, you do reg season conference winners with the better team getting the group entry. That would balance easy/hard conferences should MLS ever increase the number of teams and significanly reduce the games you play against other conferences. It wouldnt matter this year, obviously, as Chivas and DC would both still get it but I like that better, I think for future purposes.

As for TFC getting an automatic in, which is basically the case unless they do a 1 game final for their "tournament", they shouldnt be eligible for any of USSF's spots that come through MLS.

This is the last year of the CCC. Both are being played this year so there wouldn't be a break from April 2008 until August 2009.

dear mate, the CCL cant determine our entry into the next Club World Cup because of timing.
so this final CCC is for the '08 CWC while the CCL is for the '09.

so what part of england do you come from?

    Exactly.

The season will be very long but Orange1836 thinks for some reason that the CONCACAF Champions Cup isn't part of this season.

    Where did he say that?

You, dustcowpoke, said, "I think this CONCACAF CL is stupid, get rid of the Champions Cup if you have CL."

Orange1836 then said, " the CL is replacing CCC."

That statement is 100% correct. And, yet, you responded with "So then why the f*** are the Dynamo playing CSD Municipal early March?"

    Which is a complete non-sequitur.

The CONCACAF Champions' League is replacing the CONCACAF Champions Cup. We will be playing in the 2008 CCC this spring and probably in the 2009 CCL starting this fall.

No one ever said that the final CCC is not part of this season.

Canada gets a spot in the first round. If they get by their play-in game, they get seeded in a group. I had a link from somewhere, but I've closed it and can't find it in history, that talks about TFC, Vancouver and Montreal playing for that one slot. Hmmmm, sounds kind of like the USOC.

CL doesn't replace the CC this season. The CC ceases to exist after this campaign but it is still part of this season.

Just because the CC is going away later doesn't mean our players won't get tired. We still have to play CC games in March.

We could play up to 60 games this season.

How are you defining "replace" and "this season"?

The 2008 CCC will be played in March and April of this year. Some of the games will be played after MLS teams start playing each other. It will not be played again.

The 2009 CCL will start this fall before MLS teams finish playing each other.

That sounds an awfully lot like "replace" and "this season" to me.

What does that have to do with the first part of your post? Or with anything that anyone has said?

Yes, we could. Again, who has denied that?

    Re: Concacaf Champions League 2008-2009

First of all I never said this.

I said that we should play reserves in either Superliga or Champions Cup.

Also, what is so hard about this that you cannot understand? Orange1836 said that CL replaces CC so we shouldn't have to worry about players getting tired.

But the season runs from the first game of Concacaf CC all the way to the end of the CONCACAF Champions League. We will play both competitions this year. CL doesn't replace CC this season.

Yeah I just think that if the tournament is home and away, TFC is going to win every time.

Oh, I don't know. Vancouver and Montreal are pretty good teams for USL, and unless something has changed TFC is still TFC. Mo is still in charge and, well, they suck like dallas.

    Oh, yes you did.

Post #3 of this thread. Here it is in its entirety

    Next

I don't think anything about it is hard for me to understand. I'm pretty confident of that.

    And finally.

Quote something from an Orange1836 post or give me a post number where he said that. Orange1836 never said that. He said we should play reserves in SuperLiga and later that we should help kill it off. He said that the CCL will replace the CCC specifically in response to your statement that they should get rid of the CCC if they are going to have the CCL. Which they are going to do but only after they play the 2008 CCC.

They are getting rid of CCC.

CCL, is the most important competition any club in our region can play in since it is THE championship of our region. SL has no importance, and is just made-for-tv friendlies.

You may feel SL is a higher priority for you -- but are not the above statements facts?
