"...interim general manager Mark McCullers filed the papers yesterday with U.S. Soccer, claiming referee Ali Saheli, who left because of a hamstring injury, was physically unfit to officiate the game and his replacement, Nathan Clement, was incapable of overseeing the game."

    http://www.1460thefan.com/tf.php?story=dispatch/2004/07/22/20040722-D3-00.html

Can we file a complaint with the F.O. of the Columbus Crew that our coach is incapable of actually coaching a soccer team at any level? Maybe that's what we need to do, get a letter together and send it off to McCullers.

Just wait until Adrulis gets an extension from these idiots. The way in which they operate is insulting to fans. They will not get another cent from my pocket until Adrulis is gone.

I like the picture's caption stating that Hejduk's tackle on Williams earned Hejduk a red card. Nice fact-checking, Dispatch. Is it really that difficult?

    Beyond the caption mistake...

What a bunch of crap. I don't think either official performed well, but to file a complaint just makes the organization seem like a bunch of whiny bitches. They're setting the bar for other whining organizations when you add this protest to the bitching about Andrulis and the all star game.

If you guys would simply take advantage of the numerous opportunities provided, specifically beating teams that are undermanned and coming off insane schedules, you wouldn't have to whine so much. Each day this organization disgusts more and more. Whiny bitches.

Speculation is they'll give up Cornell Glen or Mark Lisi and a draft pick. Nothing more. And you'd have to guess that MLS will jam the deal down your throat.

Fortunately for them, they really don't care what anybodyy thinks. They just sit over there on Velma Ave and pout about how unfair everybody is to them, fans included.

This complaint is nice. Very cute. And so what? It won't change a damned thing and everybody knows it. Yes, we got screwed. Write all the poison pen letters you want - the result will stand. USSF is even less likely to do anything than MLS and that's saying a lot.

It's just blowing off steam and playing to the fans, which is why they invited CBC over to lick the stamp. The script is all written, and everybody is just reading their parts.

I know, right now the Metros hope if they don't win the lottery, the Crew will because our FO will trade him for a Coke dispenser and a signed Wolyniec National Team Jersey(A rare commodity, I hope).

Personally I'd hold out for Taylor and Vaca and sit the kid on the bench if he didn't like it since he doesn't cost salary wise and flip off MLS HQ until I get it. I'd hold the little bastard hostage so quick you'd think you'd be in Colombia.

He's not capable because they didn't agree with his calls? They really didn't give a reason that would stand up in any type of hearing. Was he not certified to ref at that level? Otherwise, this is a joke.

I was told that no matter what happened in the draft today, he's going to be a Metro, lord only knows what will be offered in return. Maybe if we show some bottle and dig in we could get Guevara, ha ha ha.

Anyone who made that trade obviously had it shoved down their throats by MLS.

To the protest, I could ask the question of CBC, "How is that newsworthy considering it won't change a thing?" But, why bother. You have a team that loses to a grossly undermanned Colorado squad at home and spend teh next week campaigning for Greg to be all star coach. Then, you have the team lose to a undermanned Fire squad at home and file a protest. How bout you take some ********in responsibilty for your losses and failures once in a while, **************s?

maybe rather than hanging out in the parking lot we should move 137 to the club seats right behind Coach Clueless. Continue to go there and harass him until he resigns his position.

I think someone looked up his ref certifcation and he'd not been a US Soccer center ref in ten years and only had a AS ref license or something like that. I'm not certain that was it, but I think that was the jist.

    What abunch of fcuking asssholes.

Writing a written complaint about the referee and expecting action when we've been complaining to them for years about the state of this team without having anything really done.

I'd also accept Cornell Glen and Vaca as a good hostage ransom.

Any way that we could send Denton in a deal?

this is correct, he was not "certified" to be a center official in a game at that level.

...but it was the only choice they had.

Note: In oder to get the whole hostage deal right, you need to take someone that somebody else would want back.

With hose two, you'd have to sweeten the pot just to get Metros to take them back.

That's pretty bad. I assumed those 4th officials were certified to do the games. Of course nothing will come of their protest.

Usually the linesman are local. I thought Lundquist, the original 4th, had centered in MLS matches.

This is incorrect. Nate Clement, like all of the US's FIFA Assistant Referees [AR] is also a US National Referee. That means he is certified to referee at the highest professional level in the country (eg, USOC and MLS) and attends the same National Recertification Clinic ("National Camp") as all the other professional referees in the US.

Now, because he is a FIFA AR, he has become specialized and works almost exclusively as an AR. So, it is true that he has not been a center referee in a top professional match for sometime (though he does have to referee two lower level pro matches a year with a passing assessment to retain his certification).

Regardless, the process for replacing the center referee is decided by the competition authorities. In international matches, the fourth official goes in because he is a FIFA Referee. In most MLS matches, the same pattern holds. In USOC, because oftentimes the fourth official is a local guy with less experience (a newer national referee), the Senior Assistant Referee (in this case, Clement) usually takes over.

As to Clement's competence: This is a guy who is considered one of the top three or four assistant referees in the US (which makes him probably in the top 75 or 100 in the world). Day in and day out people expect him not only to make correct offside calls, but to assist the center referee with all fouls and misconduct. He sees these players all the time (more so than most MLS center referees, in fact) and has been at the MLS level since its inception. I think Clement is more than competent to referee a USOC match.

    :D

    Bingo.

I'd do any of these deals.

I like the idea of "holding out" for Vaca though. Makes me frickin laugh

I have great faith in the ineptitude of Crew management.

Again, not necessarily true. And definitely not true for USOC matches.

For USOC matches in the later rounds, the center referee and senior assistant referee (bench side) are almost always from out of town. The junior assistant (far side) and fourth official are local. Mellen (JAR) and Lundquivst (4th) are both from Ohio.

In MLS the combination of out-of-town/local refs depends on the market (some markets, like LA, Chicago and NE have more local guys working MLS than others like KC and Colorado) and anywhere from 2 to 4 of the officials may be from out of town. But, the CR is always an out-of-town guy.

He has been a 4th official in MLS (I believe only on Crew matches) but has yet to be an assistant referee or center referee in an MLS match. He's mostly worked A-League and lower, and most of those are as an assistant referee.

Mark McCullers- Congratulations. You recently took over Columbus Crew, and what's the first thing you do to get in the papers? Whine. Complain. Make a complaint to the SF. Once again, congratulations.

It's a damn bit better then the ass raping MLS is going to make us accept if the Crew win this farce anyway.

A midfielder to push Martino or play on the right and a forward for Greg not to use is a good trade for a ping pong ball.

However Bill since you want to be mean and all to the Metros, We take Taylor or Glen and Vaca, but in addition we make them take Denton before we trade the ping pong ball.

Consequently, if the Crew win it will be the only ball in the organization. If they win a second won then they'll have a pair and maybe Andrulis will be sacked.
