Should the MLS have a community shield pre-season match between the winner of the Supporters Shield and the MLS Cup? Or for that matter the MLS Cup and the US Open Cup or the US Open Cup and the Supporters Shield? Just curious as to your thoughts.
I'm not sure if a seperate game would be the way to go, but if "League Match 1" was the SS winner vs MLS Cup winner, or rematch of MLS Cup then that would be a good idea.
And it has happened before, I think: didn't Columbus (US Open Cup winner) host Los Angeles (MLS Cup winner) in MLS's first game one year?
FlyerFan is right. The "two good teams from the previous season" idea was tried sporadically in past years, but the league seems to have given up on it. I think that was back when the opening weekend usually featured a single game on ABC, circa 2001-2004 or so.
According to the long range forcasts, Feb is to be one of the coldest on record. Maybe we'll be lucky and that will last through March 9th. There's somthing wonderful about a Mexican team and freezing temps.
