As a student I used to go and watch Exeter regularly at St James' Park - very good memories of the place. A real shame you had to go down boys, all the best and I hope you make it straight back up again.
The only good thing is knowing how much relegation will have pissed off uri gellar. He was a publicity seeking twat when he leeched himself onto Reading's promotion challenge in 1995, before showing his true colours after refusing to go any more after Reading FC "insulted" him by not giving him free tickets any more. He gave two fine on-the-pitch performacs at Elm Park. One was a psychic test (due to be shown on a TV show) with everyone in a section of the seats being given three different coloured bits of card. He said he'd telepathically tell them which colour to hold up. He gave his signal, and 200 people raised a random selection of coloured cards. That didn't make the show for some reason. The other time followed an on the pitch demo calling for the sacking of the managers after a 6-1 mauling at home by Crystal Palace. He joined the chairman on the pitch to address the crowd using a megaphone. Sadly, his calls for the crowd to use the power of positive thinking were rather drowned out by the crowd tunefully telling him to "shove his bent spoons up his arse". Sad for Exeter though. Perhaps the most amazing game I've seen, Exeter 4 Reading 6, was played there. There is an evil chip shop near Exeter's ground though. Struck by the vileness of the chips I was eating as I went trhough the turnstile, I asked a steward if there was a bin or something where I could dump these chips - only for him to point to a small heap of indentical slighly eaten chip portions. I think one season in the purgatory of the nationwide conference is a payback for that. The guy who broke his leg celebrating Reading's 5th goal in the above win (after we'd blown a 4-1 lead) probably feels the same way.
Uri Geller is indeed a knob of world-class proportions. I think I've been to that chip shop as well. Only the once, though.
My understanding is that Uri got into a fight with members of the board and has left Exeter. I had heard a very heated discussion with a couple of those in charge at Exeter on TalkSport. TalkSport then read an official statement from Uri saying he would have nothing to do with those people ever again. The only reason Uri got involved with Exeter was because his soon had become an Exeter supporter when he was very little. The first time they set foot in Exeter Uri's son gave a grand tour of the city and the club as if he had lived there his whole life. As a result Uri got involved with the club because of his son's love for the team. Exeter faced Charlton in the FA Cup fourth round at The Valley and everyone at Charlton had nothing but good things to say about the folks from Exeter. It's too bad they ended up being connected with Geller.
