I personally thought Tommy did a great job, I think he is the best announcer we could have doing our games. Now Rob has got to be the corniest guy anybody ever gave a mic. I wish he would just announce the game and stop trying to be clever and funny, because he is failing terribly.
I think it's really funny that a lot of us enjoy Tommy calling a game and the English absolutely hate the guy . Personally, I don't mind him and think he does a good job, but I don't think he is the best thing since sliced bread.
I like his thinking when it comes down to the game, but for some reason the guy's voice bugs me and he looks like the lucky charms guy.
I guess it wouldn't be a good idea for you to take a trip to Ireland then. You'll be bugged a lot. Lucky Charms are the best food on earth! The official breakfast of Irish Football.
jp dellacamera and tommy smyth are the only espn crew i can listen to. the other guys suck horribly and have no idea about what's actually happening in the game.
Maybe, but Tommy Smyth needs to know when to shut up the piehole of his. I think a lot of his commentaries are way off base. I.e., when he came down hard on Beckham during the last WC and blamed him for a goal when he really had nothing to do with it. That's only one example. We should be able to find someone better.
Hmm... I didn't really notice the announcers, just the game. That's probably the highest compliment they could get.
What happened to Jack? I loved hearing him in WC2002...the last I ever heard him was just after WC he did a couple hockey games during the playoffs (or maybe it was early this season). I'm thankful to have MSG and anyone else that does can attest that listening to John Paul every week is a treat in and of itself
I disagree. Jack tried to be a storyteller. And at times he was great at it. I'll take a European commentator over Spanish ones any day (though there are a few I don't mind), but they have the potential to be bland as soy milk. Unless there are goals in the game, they don't do anything to bring viewers into the game. Which is fine over there, they're all hooked onto the stuff. Over here, they're not. And even if they were, we still want to hear a good story from the people charged with calling the game. I don't know about you, but I can't get into a game unless I'm either at the stadium or the commentators on the television are getting me into it.
i thought rob, ty, and eric were a fine team... y the ************ did espn try to ************ with it?
OK, just for that bit of sarcasm, you don't get to hear what I think of you. I mean, really, I love politics, but I can't proofread all of my remarks. So, you know, to save me some time, please, grow up.
Jack Edwards did the Fire - Rapids game the other night. I saw it on the shootout. I find him a bit annoying. Anywho, Tommy's great, and I look forward to tomorrow's Champions League coverage.
Tommy waved at me after the game. i know that has nothing to do with this thread, but i feel a certain connection to tommy now.
Soy milk is bland and you know it! The blandest is from Rosa the cashier at South Campus Dining Hall...you know who im talking about Terps Pointyball in '03
You're right, he tries to tell stories. Perhaps he should call baseball games, where long stories during the run of play are appreciated.
Glad I'm not the only Jack fan. Jack is now the commentator for Chicago Fire games as stated earlier. He does NHL games occasionaly. The same goes for sumo wrestling. You will probablt hear Jack over the summer since he also does Little League Baseball. I also heard something about him having a contract with this new channel of college sports.
>>i thought rob, ty, and eric were a fine team...<< Wynalda has the personality of a goalpost. Brings back VP!
its sad that we consider an announcer like Tommy Smyth a step up from what we had, his Champions League Commentary is atrocious and makes me want to turn the sound off so i dont have to listen to his mindless drivel
