In case any of you are interested in comic book superheroes, don't miss this special on The History Channel on Monday, June 23rd at 9:00pm ET/PT.       'Comic Book Superheroes Unmasked' -G
You can also go to your nearest Blimpie between now and June 23rd and pick up a free 'Comic Book Superheroes Unmasked' comic book (while supplies last). -G
Darn it! It turns out that the nearest Blimpie to me is in the East Bay, which is way to far for me to drive to (especially on a weekday)! -G
Hmmm...could be fun to watch. Speaking of Cap punching out Hitler, didn't the JSA take on a superhero Hitler at one point in the continuity? I remember reading something in WIZARD about it.
You could be right about that, although I unfortunately missed that issue of WIZARD.       Hopefully the upcoming TV special can answer that quesetion. -G
there's one right by my house. i could be talked into doing your dirty work for you. for a price! (cue evil laughter)
Thanks Ringo1725!       And what would that price be? A superbeer? A wonderbeer? A batbeer? -G
I'll swing by tomorrow or monday and see what I can do for you. i assume you'll be at the quakes game on june 20 to make the exchange?
And all you comic book superheroes fans should also check this game out. -G
Today's the day!       And there's even an article about it in today's USA Today. -G
Finally saw the show yesterday. It was fantastic! I liked how they went decade by decade for two hours. Wish they went a little more indepth into Spidey though, but that's only cuz I'm a Spidey freak.
It was really entertaining, but I still managed to nod off about 10 minutes before the end. The show could have been several hours long. I wish they would have detailed Crisis on Infinite Earths, and its impact on the DCU (collapsing all the confusing alternate Earths into one). But then they probably would have felt compelled to also spend time covering some major Marvel arc to be fair, so why bother? Only other thing I thought might warrant mention, especially since they were talking to Neil Gaiman, would be Books of Magic -- considering the rampant popularity of one Mr. Harry Potter, who I think is a total ripoff of Tim Hunter. Rowling should be forced to give Gaiman and John Bolton (as well as anyone else who's worked on subsequent BoM series) credit in every Potter book. The TV critic in the SJ Mercury thought the glaring omission was Kingdom Come, but I disagree. It was a nice book, but not even in the mainstream continuity. Alex Ross' art was groundbreaking, but I didn't think the story was that great nor was its impact that major. Nice to see Watchmen get some props.
I must've been switching back and forth to the Met game to miss Alex Ross was on. What did they talk about? I think his artwork is amazing. Whether he has made a major impact or minor one, I don't know, but I think he's fantastic.
I didn't hear them mention Doomsday at all. What about the new books like 'Last Man' and 'Grendel' ? This should have been 5 hours long, but I liked it anyway.
It wasn't mentioned specifically but you could tell they were talking about it when talking about the early 90s speculators and pulling off stunts with characters to get more people to buy. It focused primarily on superhero comics (thus no Vertigo mentions, among others) and the Big Two (thus no real indie/small press mentions like 'Grendal').
Unless I was tripping, they did mention Hellblazer and Sandman, in passing. Then again, those two started as DC comics before the Vertigo imprint was born. They talked with Mike Richardson of Dark Horse, but didn't really talk much about Dark Horse titles. In addition to Grendel, I didn't see/hear mention of Hellboy, American Splendor or the successful Aliens franchise, either. Thing is, two hours just wasn't enough for some of us fanboys, but for people who aren't totally dialed in to comics/comix (like my wife) it was plenty.
Haha. I'm flattered, considering all I do is bitch about the Rangers. Another note on the show: I'm gettin tired of Stan Lee interviews. It's all the same recycled crap, and most of the time he's so full of himself.
