COMETS CONFIRM ‘RETRO GAME’ AT SPRINT CENTER IN 2012

Annual Game to be Played January 14th in Cooperation with NSCAA Convention

The Missouri Comets are excited to announce their annual “Retro Game” honoring Kansas City’s rich Indoor Soccer history will be played at Sprint Center on January 14, 2012 at 7:35pm. This year’s event is made even larger with the presence of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Annual Convention, held in Kansas City’s Bartle Hall. This yearly meeting of the top soccer coaching minds brings thousands of visitors from all across the country January 11-15, 2012.

The NSCAA convention is the largest gathering of its kind in the world. Top instructors like US Men’s National Team (USMNT) Assistant Coach Mike Murray, former USMNT player Eric Wynalda and Duke University Head Coach John Kerr will lead training sessions throughout the week. The highlights of the convention are the MLS SuperDraft held Thursday January 12th, the NSCAA Awards Banquet on Friday January 13th and now the Comets “Retro Game” on Saturday January 14th. Joe Cummings, CEO of the NSCAA, is excited about the new addition to the Convention schedule, “We are very happy to be back in Kansas City this year, especially with the participation of the Comets and their fans. We are looking to make this one of our most memorable conventions we’ve ever had.”

“We love our fans and our home at the IEC. When it was announced that the NSCAA convention was going to be in Downtown Kansas City right in the middle of our season, we immediately started to receive phone calls asking us about tickets.” Brian Budzinski, Comets President, talks about the process of scheduling the game at Kansas City’s award-winning downtown arena. “Thousands of players and coaches will travel from all over the country to attend this conference. Now they can enjoy all that our area has to offer and take in one of the MISL’s greatest classic rivalries, the Comets vs the Wings!”

“Hosting the Comets vs. Wings ‘Retro Game’ and welcoming NSCAA convention attendees to Sprint Center is exciting for Kansas City and personally meaningful-- having started my career with the original Comets organization,” said Brenda Tinnen, Senior Vice President and General Manager for AEG Kansas City/Sprint Center. “Sprint Center and the City of Kansas City, Mo. look forward to showcasing our unrivaled commitment to hospitality and guest service to soccer fans from all corners of the city and throughout the nation.”

Last year’s inaugural “Retro Game” played to a packed house at the Independence Events Center and saw the Comets play an exciting game wearing special “rainbow striped” jerseys inspired by the uniforms worn by the original Comets in 1981. The Independence Events Center will continue to be the permanent home of the Comets, but for this one Saturday in January all eyes will be on downtown Kansas City.

Tickets for the Retro Game start at only $15.00 and go on sale 10:00 AM Friday November 4th, 2012 at sprintcenter.com and charge by phone at 1-800-745-3000. This game is already included for all current Comets season ticket holders.

They ought to move there in another season or two.. they're drawing way more than that arena football team that plays there. Very neat idea.

This is very impressive. I like what I have seen from the Comets in the year plus they have been around.

Sprint Center is a big place, we will see how they do on attendance for this game.

Syd, Rich P, Kenn or Beau Dure - any of you guys have any stats on crowd size for recent (not so recent) history. I know Blast put 10,000+ in for the Final last year, but what before that was a crowd as big or bigger than 10,000+. Just curious.

If they are Smart they will work with the convention now
to sell this game out that convention draws a huge crowd
I would also think they should have a booth & sell tickets to the game on the spot , and work with all the hotels in the area to sell those tickets as well

Since a lot of people are from out of town I would also have them sell tickets for every MISL team if you realy want to market the MISL this is the best place to do it

Literally thousands of soccer coaches attend this thing, I have no idea how the blast did not set something up (or even schedule a home game) last year when it was held in downtown Baltimore the same time of year. Glad to see the Comets jumped at the chance. Wish I was attending this year but a good friends wedding made the cut over going to the convention.

the Blast was set up at MISL / USL booth . I agree Baltimore blew it big time by not getting a game date around that convention . they will be comming back to baltimore If i am not mistaken it will be the weekend after the National Sports card convention .

Dude, where are you coming from? I could say the Chicago Riot averaged 4,000 a year because their league did, but I'd be wrong. The Kansas City Command drew the third worst in their league.

    You're one to talk...

These are the AFL and MISL averages specifically of the KC teams. I know you were holding out hope of not being completely wrong again, but I am thorough.

You got the MISL attendance right but for their AFL Command team, several sources state that last years average was 3,700. And many say those statistics are extremely biased.

Don't know where you got "4,318" from but I'll list my "sources"
    http://kcarenafootball.blogspot.com/2011/06/command-attendance-third-worst-in.html
    http://www.arenafan.com/teams/Kansas_City_Command-213/history/

Plus my original post wasn't "analysis" at all, I just wanted to compliment the Comets on their success.

Unlike the PASL, the MISL doesn't count their teams attendance by "dozens" of people, so I can see where you got the math wrong.
