http://www.theatlantabeat.com/346218.html Damn. Us DirecTV folks don't get this channel I don't think. Ugh. -------------- So season #1 the Beat are on FXSS. Season #2 mostly on WB36! with a game or two on FXSS. Now season #3 finds the Beat on CSS.
who the hell are they... first there was PAX TV now CSS??? How do you know if you even have CSS? maybe i need to surf my channels again
It is clear what the Beat are trying to do, increase their regional exposure. The first season they were on a ch that was available on sat and many cable systems BUT there were a large number of cable systems in the region that did not carry it and some that did preempted Beat games for other coverage. (The ch was actually two or more chs that shared time on many cable systems.) Also there was no "over the air" coverage. The second season they went with a ch that was available over the air in Atlanta and on Atlanta cable services and available to sat subs that received Atlanta locals but that station was not available to most of the region even a little way from the Atlanta metro area. This cost them a lot of potential regional viewers and therefore potential fans. This year they are trying to get more regional viewers but at the expense of any sat coverage and any over the air coverage. This "should" allow a greater number of viewers to see the Beat BUT it may cost them in the Atlanta area due to no OTA. (I do not know what the total market penetration of this cable station is vs over the air receivers in the Atlanta and including the demographics of the Beat's potential viewers.) I believe this is actually a good move for the Beat as I think it will increase the number of viewers that might, actually, go to a game as well as watch on TV. My only complaint is that I get this ch on cable instead of sat and the picture is not as good and my stand alone TiVo cannot record as good a picture as my DirecTiVo does. (A function of the DirecTiVo recording the exact signal DTV sends.) Also I was considering dropping cable as I rarely watch it now I have to keep it to watch the Beat. Edit to add: Maybe DTV will pick up many of the games and put them on a RSN station like they did for many of the Washington games last year. This is a long shot but there is always hope.
Did anyone notice?? That the first FOUR games are all tape delayed. I guess this is an attempt to keep people from staying home instead of going to the games but I believe that it is just stupid as the main reason for TV is to build an audiance and by delaying the broadcast many will not watch. People like their sports LIVE not delayed.
It's better than nothing. I'll take what I can get. BTW...go over to the Power forum. I posted their 2003 TV schedule. The 4/5 Power v Beat game will be carried on one of their networks...and I do believe it will be broadcast live. Which reminds me I need to hook up melbrown with stamps and boxes for my tapes!
Re: Did anyone notice?? Or maybe it might just be because there was a scheduling conflict with something else on TV at that time. CSS does broadcast a lot of other sports and the deal with the Beat appears to have been reached very recently. I think it probably wasn't the Beat's decision to have the game tape delayed.
for those with directv, next weeks power-beat game will be shown SHOW TITLE: WUSA Soccer EPISODE: New York Power at Atlanta Beat CATEGORY: CHANNEL: 624 [FSNY] DATE / TIME: April 5: 7:00PM LENGTH: 120 Minutes
Of course this only helps those with the sports pack or those that live in the NY area. EXCEPT: In this case, next weekend, Apr 4-6, is a free Total Choice Premier weekend so everyone with DTV will be able to see that game live.
