Of course we don't really know how people played, but Cunningham on paper had a good half of action with one goal and two assists. It also looks like a number of players saw some substantial time, around 74 minutes of action.

well yea, unless we keep giving up PK's...jesus, second time we have fouled in the penalty area and marco puts it away again.

    4-2

this is without a doubt the strongest crew team i can remember. and right now we are without mcbride and duncan...if we are in any way as good as we look on paper this is going to be a very, very good year to be a crew fan, i have always wanted to travel to l.a. and this year i will have a reason to in the fall.

Well I guess they've broken the 1 goal a game habit. Always good to see the Crew kick the sh!t out of DeCrepid.

Looks like they had McCarty as the D-Mid to start the game. That's interesting. If Oughton can't go to start the season, I would mind seeing a midfield of Walsh, Mais, Martino, and Garcia. That is also concidering if Mais can kick the hamstring problems. If Mais and Oughton both can't go West, Walsh, Martino, Garcia would be another good mid.

the first half lineup looks like the starters for the upcoming CCC matches. Unless someone totally screws up, this will probably be our starting lineup for April 5th, with the exception of Mcbride in the lineup...

Seems like Buddle was the main guy. If he has a breakout year, we could be in for some fun.

Nobody wants to read too much into a match like this, although it's nice to see Ray's "hairy chested Bulgarian" Ivanov, whom they're so excited about, get used by West, Buddle and Cunningham like a five dollar hooker at D-mid before getting ejected at just the 25th minute for his second egregious foul.

Sounds like he'll fit in well with Ray's bunch. Probably a drunk, too.

His problem isn't toughness Hudson, you idiot; it's that he's SLOW. Some old lead-footed Bulgarian alcoholic in a footrace with Buddle or West or Cunningham is something I know I personally am REALLY looking forward to this season.

I know: when Convey gets back, boy we'll be in trouble then. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I'm certain Frankie and Chad are staying up nights worrying about Mr Lightweight.

Busch, Hejduk (Paule 74), Clark (Torres 45), Dunseth (Joy 74), Denton (Washington 74), West (Trevor Parea 74), Martino (Akwari 74), McCarty (Omar Elbey 55), Garcia (Leitch 74), Buddle (Walsh 74), Cunningham (Gonzalez 45)

And does anyone have a read for what kind of role Lucci Gonzalez is going to play for the Crew? Is he merely a forward, or can he fill in at other spots?

Lucci looks to be an offensive sub at wing or forward - from what I've read. Apparently, he has a good nose for the goal and is technically sound.

He could grow into something more, though, but not this year. Should be a good development year for his group.

Sounded like a good game from what I could tell over the matchtracker. I think that Cunny and Buddle are going to be a good combo if Bake goes to Europe or when he's with the nats etc. I can't wait for this season. We are going to be a top competitor.

Yeah, but he's the real fool. Look at the end of the first half. He's already down a man and two goals. One of his little prisses hobbles off the field with about 7 minutes to go to halftime. Does he put somebody else in? No, and because it was then 11 on 9, we put two more in the net before the break. Nice call Ray... hope you keep that up during the rest of the season. Must still want the free allocations for the next offseason.

    Speaking of Ray Hudson ....

    http://www.soccertimes.com/wagman/2003/mar12.htm

Ray is quoted a couple of times, mentioning the Crew and the Crew/DC match.

Regarding the Crew, he said the following: "Look at Columbus. They have all been together for awhile, they're close-knit, and they play as a unit,"

And regarding putting his drinking buddy in midfield against the Crew, and watching our team speed torch Galinov: "The preseason is for experimenting, so tonight I thought I would look at Galin as a sweeper in front of the back four. It was terrible, wasn't it?" Hudson commented. "He was like a fish out of water, a round peg trying to fit into a square hole. He tried awfully hard, but the position just isn't for him. You won't see him there again."

Looks like Ray is in for a long year. At least he didn't refer to the Crew as a "crap team" ;)

Ray Hudson makes Bobby Robson look sane when it comes to being quoted....

...these are times when Newcastle fans wish Hudson wasn't a Geordie.
