Disappointing result. The McBride goal hurt, simply because we had played so well defensively all evening (at least given we were on the road and missing alot of players.) We're really going to miss Landon while he's gone...this could turn out to be a very long road trip.

Deserved loss. Oh you can say we deserved a tie, but we surrendered to much run of play without an effective ability to counter. Its very frustrating though as we did have chances.

Too much route one football. It wasnt effective trying to go over the top every time, we needed to mix it up a bit more. Give credit to the Crew though, they had good defensive pressure in the midfield.

Agoos with another poor clearance leading to a goal. Two games in a row now. :( Waibel was suprisingly solid, as was Roner and Dunivant. Onstad was solid in goal as well.

The team really misses Ching. As a target, and as a player able to hold the ball when under defensive pressure and a guy able to knock down balls for teamates. If anyone has doubts about why we need him I offer this game as exhibit A.

Good game overall I thought, despite the propensity for route one.

I coudn't believe the ref didn't allow SJ to play advantage when Walsh fouled Mulrooney (sp?) - could well have been a goal for the Quakes.

It's been a while since I saw SJEFC (was there for the home opener then travelling abroad) and they looked quite good but not much going on upfront.

Donovan is one those one in a thousand talents who is a always a real pleasure to watch and he almost had a couple in the bag, very fast on the turn, lightning speed mentally and physically, and good vision. I'd like to see him at Spurs, could work well with Keane. Might be worth a few bob to The Quakes to flog him, or is he still tied up contractually with the Krauts?

Yet another Hammers shirt on display - that kid celebrating at the end. Saw plenty of Irons replicas in England too despite their relegation. Gotta hand it to those WHU fans, they aren't glory hunters.

Anyway I'll be down at The Home Depot Center (shocking name for a ground) for the away game at LA. What block are the Quakers going to be in? Can you walk round the ground and sit anywhere? Prob not. Don't forget - you can't bring handcuffs in..... at least I can pick up some home improvement supplies while I'm there. It's the stadium where you can actually watch paint dry.

Any other Spurs supporters who support The Quakes in MLS?

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Agreed... and the team really misses Ekelund as well.

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp The lack of the smooth distrubution from midfield that Ekelund usually provides has been evident in his absence all season so far. :(

Good news is we should get both of them back and able to start soon! I hope anyways.

It really was a tough loss, but it wasnt the disaster we had last week where Murphy hammered us with the full force of his law.

I have to agree on Waibel. Maybe a better position for him is in the middle of the defense rather than RB?

A tough loss. We really need to come up with some points from this road trip....

Yes, yes, yes!! I agree completely. And I knew this before he even joined the team and have been saying it all year. I was actually quite shocked to see him as our right back this season. He's much better suited to play in the middle!

The one thing I took away from the game was that when Dayak and/or Robinson are ready to return, Waibel should find a nice comfortable spot on the bench and Roner should be the right back. Not to say that Waibel had a bad game, he didn't. But he clearly is an offensive liability and I don't see Roner being much of a drop off defensively if at all. And Roner is composed with the ball at his feet and can link up with the midfield going forward.

The Quakes definately miss Dayak. I just get the feeling the Crew doesn't get that goal with Dayak in.

I know I shouldn't second guess FY, but I was swearing at the TV today. Mulrooney was obviously hurting out there, especially by the end of the game. I was thinking FY would bring in Ekelund in for him about at the 70th minute. When he didn't, and then didn't put him in until the 85th, and then took out Lagos and Corrales instead of Mulrooney, I called FY some bad names.

Now I have to eat a little crow. I said after the draft and again before the start of the season that I didn't think Jamil was MLS material. That was after watching him many times for my home boys - SCU Broncos. I have to admit now, that he's looked dangerous in the minutes he's had. Imagine that, FY judging talent better than me!?!.

What are you people, on dope? Waibel screwed up again in missing his mark(McBride) on the Agoos poor clearance( he had two tonight that went right across the box) Waibel missed his assignments last week against Chicago and it cost us like it did tonight. Not to mention the fact that he's useless on offense and most of his passes from the back go out of bounds. Let's face it, he's worthless. Corrales had an awful day, he stunk up the field with bad passes and lost balls, completely worthless tonight. We would have had the point if not for the McBride's garbage goal. I think a blowout would have been easy to deal with, this way hurts more.

IMO, the worst guy on the pitch tonight was Mulrooney. He just looked so uncomfortable out there and had stretches where he probably gave the Crew 10 balls in 5 minutes.
    It was disgusting.

    Waibel just sucks.

We basically shut down the Columbus's much vaunted attack..apart from miss placed shot that carroned off Agoos (I don't think there's much h could do about it unfortunatly)..and yesr Beerking Waibel should have anticipated it a lot better and been with McBride.

We deserved a draw. Our mid was wrecked and hurting. It was Corrales who had the nightmare. At one point he lost the ball 8 succesive time including on a breakaway were we could easily have had a good chance. Therefore we couldn't really attack much. Landon nearly scored on two difficult half chances and Walker had a shot at the end apart from tha we didn't threaten. Waibel basically kept Cunningham outta the game, Agoos marshalled the make-shift defence magnificetly and I thought Roner was a revelation...my Quakes man of the match. Russell also did well on his return.

The score hurts we did not deserve to lose, but thats the great thing about the sport you never know whats going to happen.. On the bright side we help out own, players will start to come back into the line up and players who wouldn't have gotten a chance (Dunivet and Roner) are coming through strong... I think it still looks good for the rest of the Season...

I definitely agree. I felt this as painfully as one of Troy's sports hernias.

He was impressive. I thought that maybe the squashing by Thornton brought that out, but it must have been there all along. :)

I thought it was the worst game I'd ever seen corrales play. and waibel does just suck.

but there's good news on that front. when dayak is healthy I think roner has played well enough to boot waibel's butt to the bench. a back line of roner, dayak, goose, and dunivant is fine be me.

I'm more impressed with roner everytime. he's earned more time. hopefully it will come at the expense of waibel.

Good game for the morale (we can play with anyone even though we have a ton of injuries), bad result.

Roner looked good at right back. Covered well, moved forward at good times, made decent outlet passes. After one game, seems a sep up from Waibel.

Waibel looked decent on defense at center back. Hard to blame him for the goal. He actually made one pass to a teammate in this game!

Corrales had a nightmare. Hopefully, he bounces back quickly.

Lots of guts shown by Mulrooney. Hopefully, he doesn't hurt himself any further and gets a chance to heal up soon.

Where is the offense going to come from? When Landon leaves for the Confed Cup, an anemic attack will get that much worse...

A point in the next two games might be the best we can hope for.

must concur with "we were cut" - i don't see how you can fault waibel for the goal in any way. how's he to know the ball is going to ricochet off jeff "slower than molasses" agoos right to mcbride. sheesh, all agoos has to do is move his feet and get the ball out of there but he's so damn slow and awkward.

a pity really. the quakes deserved better i thought.

I think if we can move Arturo up top we might get a little more offensive creativity, especially with the likelihood of Ekelund returning in the next few weeks. His return and a spirited response from Alvarez could make Donovan's absence a little more manageable.

I have to agree about Roner. He's looked good, and once Robinson/Dayak are healthy, we'll be in good shape in the back. Roner contributes so much more to the offense than Waibel has. I hope Yallop has the good sense (but when doesn't he, despite our constant doubts?) to let Waibel ride the pine once our central defense gets healthy.

The one thing that distressed me was that we seemed to have very little communication on offense. Has anyone heard of running off the ball? Too often, they'd all stand around, watching Donovan, forgeting that they need to make themselves available for passes , or at least try to open some space. Standing around like statues does very little good. That said, I thought Mullan had a good night, Lagos belongs in midfield, not up front, and hopefully Mulrooney wasn't worse injured after the night. You could tell he was struggling out there quite a bit.

    Graziani???

Is Graziani's season over at Barcelona??? Yallop says he has salary cap room, and he is under contract until the end of this season (no signing fee). We could use somebody who already knows the system to step in at forward. Maybe we can hire him on a month-to-month basis :D

From what John Schrader said, I don't think the Quakes would want him back.

    What did Schrader say Albany?

This was a bitter one to swallow. I was just getting that comfortable, satisfied feeling that we were going to earn a tie in a very tough road venue with half our team hurt when the unthinkable happened. VERY disappointing. I think I agree with what Beerking said...a blowout, you can handle but a loss like this stings a lot more. I'm just sorry that over the last two weeks we've had the basis for comparison of that analogy!

Ok, I have recovered. As others have said, we should have walked away with a tie. However, we gave the Crew way too many chances with corners, set plays, and other crosses for them not to get a goal. I was yelling a the Quakes to be more agreesive because I could see the goal happening, but Donovan lets the cross go and Agoos is caught flat footed on the poor shot. I kicked my foot stole ten feet across the living room!

By the way, Waibel had no chance on the goal. Anyone who thinks he did is plain stupid. He had a much better game in the center. I thought the team looked tired towards the end of the game and that the Crew wanted it more. After they scored, we did fight back and had a couple of good chances, but there just wasn't enough time.

Roner looked better. I'm still not sold on him, but I would like to see him play some more...

Corralas had a terrible game and was the main reason the attack was so bad. From his movement, he still appears to be stuggling with injuries.

Mulan appears to have come back to earth. Two sub-par games in a row.

Russell is still getting his game back. Needs polishing...

Landon disappeared too much in the second half. I was frustrated with his play or lack of play in the second half.

Lastly, didn't Onstad look faster in goal? He had a couple of nice reaches on headers and shots that he wouldn't have gotten earlier in the year. Solid game.

Overall, the team misses Dayak in the middle. Unless he fully recovers from his injuries, this team is going to continue to miss his mental toughness for the full 90 minutes.

From the interview on Rev’s radio before the Rev’s game May 3:
JS: (after talking about Carrieri and saying that Frank deals with players strongly but fairly and if he was not part of the deal he would be shipped out.)
    ...Now, Ariel Graziani, you know,
Rev’s announcer: You talk about a guy who doesn’t get along with any of his coaches....
JS: Right....He was so bad on the road, it was like Jekyll and Hyde. He was very good at home and it had really little to do with the size of the field. It’s just that Ariel got on the road and just wasn’t interested in playing as hard. And it drove Frank crazy.
RA: (then talks about opposing fans heckling Graziani and that he could have made a lot of money in Europe if he’d had his head straightened out and the fact that now he is doing fairly well in Ecuador)
JS: He never quite figured out that Landon was the big dog in the kennel. He never quite figured out that he had to get along with Landon and not be superior to Landon...They were never on the same page. Brian Ching and Landon Donovan in the first 20 minutes together were more in sync than, I think, Landon and Graziani were at any point last year.
RA: Well, would you agree that Ariel Graziani, I hate to say it, was a bit of a mercenary, you know sort of a vagabond goal scorer, while Brian Ching is probably thrilled to be back in MLS and have the opportunity to start alongside a guy like Landon.
JS: And Ariel was a guy that didn’t mind mixing it up with the defenders, but he would do it foolishly. Brian Ching is a guy who can play a little bit with his back to the goal, he’s more physical and he can also run a little bit and is more creative than anyone expected him to be. As an offensive passer. Yeah, and not only thrilled to be here but at this point from what we’ve seen, deserves to be here. And those three guys, especially Mullan, Ching and Donovan have been a real nice creative force. Haven’t scored a lot of goals yet, but they will....
