Random thought: www.columbuscrewsc.com is a ridiculously long URL. As a result, I prefer www.thecrew.com. Depending what happens with any rebrand, the original URL could feel more and more dated as time progresses. www.ccsc.com goes to some sort of 404 error. I'm thinking one of two things: 1) Whoever owns it won't give it up. 2) This hasn't crossed anyone's mind. IMO, not cool. Shorter URLs are usually better. Columbus Crew SC dot com is a friggin mouthful. (I'm talking about as a redirect, BTW. The official URL can remain unchanged for all I care.)
I don't remember the last time I typed out Columbus Crew SC dot com. I type c-o-l and it autofills. For those that don't visit as often as we do, I would like to see stats regarding direct access vs search engine access.
I just hit MLS.... which autofills to the site, see if there's any interesting news, and then click on the Crew icon.
Someone is very thankful for the chain of stores as an excuse for the soccer team to change their name. With that said, "What's a Sporting?" (Tifo reference.)
I was at that game, and somehow the scoreboard operator got it up on the scoreboard for about 2 seconds before someone (presumably someone else) took it down.
Saw this bit of Crew branding speculation on the Twitz from SW Ohio soccer legend D.J. Switzer: Spotted this new wordmark in a few shots posted of Historic Crew Stadium. There's been talk of a(nother) rebrand in Columbus for the Crew, and this certainly could be a hint of that. pic.twitter.com/JK2YVKLAmL— D.J. Switzer (@wrongsideofpond) April 16, 2021
The banner company was charging by the character so to save money on signage at the old stadium they left of the SC.....
Love the line "there's been talk." What's that supposed to mean? Do clubs generally roll out their re-brands via random banners in a stadium they're leaving in three months?
The rumor mill has been saying that this pattern is part of the new rebrand. There MANY team branding moves that are using this pattern beyond the random banners in the old stadium: Pattern on new white kit Seat pattern in new stadium New Ohio-shaped logo bugs showing up on official pictures (see bottom right of tweet linked below for an example) New pattern is found in all Crew branding. Check out the "banner" image at the top of the Crew's twitter feed. If you scroll through the feed you see this pattern showing up in more and more of the images they share, like the flourishes around "power rankings" on their website Here is the pattern in the Ohio logo bug in the bottom right: 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫, 𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐠𝐨𝐚𝐥 🏆 pic.twitter.com/uT0HOmqJau— The Crew (@ColumbusCrew) April 13, 2021
I'd also add that on Twitter the hashtag Crew96 used to automatically insert a Crew logo emoji next to it. It has recently been replaced with a yellow outline of Ohio with a Black star on Columbus:
Guess it comes down to what you define as "rebrand." As a fan, I define it as changing something at the core. Integrating a pattern into visual branding that's a lot like what we've previously had isn't a rebrand. It's keeping fresh an existing visual brand.
That Kansas City Wizards, New York/New Jersey Metrostars, and The Columbus Crew have all gone through franchise rebrands. This is a design element release/update. I'm with @Minnman: There's a big difference between the two.
