I had season tickets. They played between DCHS and I-270 where the two buildings now stand. It was good fun watching them play just as it was watching the Columbus Chill at the Fairgrounds.
Should I be surprised nobody brought up the USMNT game in Dublin? Was it at Scioto or Coffman? That would be a fun game to go back in time to.
Wow. That has to be ancient because they've been in Nike since at least 2003 and Umbro for a few years before that. The best Menace player that ended up on the Crew would arguably be Andy Gruenebaum though. Win the PDL national championship for us and a super fun guy to hang out with. Despite a bazillion injuries and starting out as a backup, if I recall he did alright for Columbus.
It would have technically been Dublin High School since Scioto opened in 1995 and this was before that. I'm trying to find more information and I'm coming up blank.
I have a program somewhere. Olympic qualifier vs Panama. Pics were fun--Dante with a huge Fro. Keller and Friedel with hair....
Found it! U.S. HAMMERS PANAMA IN OLYMPIC SOCCER - MORE THAN 10,000 CHEERED ON THE AMERICANS AND GAVE COLUMBUS' WORLD CUP BID A SHOT IN THE ARM. July 21, 1991 | Columbus Dispatch, The (OH) Author: Matthew Marx, Dispatch Sports Reporter | Page: 08E | Section: SPORTS
To connect the dots, Coffman was "Dublin High School". It was renamed when it was announced Scioto was being built so the game was played at Coffman.
Yes, the Hebrew Hammer played well for us. He was part of an ever revolving cast of keepers in the mid oughts. Between Mark Dougherty and Will Hesmer, we tried quite a few guys.
I tried to find it too and wasn't able to get any information. I don't even recall a game in Dublin and I've been here since 1992. Edit: Just saw the post a few above this one where the game was played in 1991. I was watching Puerto Rico against Dominican Republic in San Juan around that time.
[hearty laugh] I wonder if someone in @Timon19 's family can verify that translation from Lithuanian.
[For those not keeping score at home, Timon has Latvian relatives. I troll him by saying he's Lithuanian. And he is not calling me Polish scum, but referring to the old Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth.] [And I have a Scottish, German, and Irish background for equal disclosure]
I explained it since I thought that nobody besides you would get the joke, and I figured no-one would know that piece of European history and not get your reference, rather than because someone might think ZOMG! personal attack!!
Was away from my computer yesterday. and yes, I do know what a Xoggz is. Kinda. I'm not at liberty to say publically (over a beer someday, perhaps). BA may well know too, depending on which story he heard. I have both Xoggz and Magic gamers--though not the Xoggz one I would have wanted (as they did have a Gilbert (no relation AFAIK) playing for them one season, but I think those jerseys were sold to another team for re-use). But I'm most proud of my Xoggz Staff shirt (which I really did earn).

First season. Second was at Soccer First, third in the Dublin Coffman stadium, and 4th partly on school grounds (the HS decided to renovate the stadium field after signing a contact) and later in the stadium. The USISL All Star game took place there one season as well. Other home games were played in other towns in central Ohio (Centerville and Nerk for two). Very grass roots--and a lot of fun. Put a lot of miles on my car those last three seasons (I only went to one game the first year).
At one point, I thought my dad would go back, but I think it's probably too late. On the other hand I really don't know if the desire was really that high to begin with - it's not like it would be even remotely recognizable in any of about a thousand ways.
