8 2010 Akron - Barson, Nagbe, Kitchen, Speas 9 2003 Indiana - Zayner, O’Rourke, Grabavoy 11 Justin Meram 12 Aaron Horton
Will there be Grouchy point options for (a) last goal scored at HCS, (b) last Crew goal scored at HCS, (c) first goal scored at NCS, and (d) first Crew goal scored at NCS? There could actually be a whole set of questions for each. Will the Crew shutout the Fire / New England? Who will get the first yellow/red card? Who will get the first assist?
After answering this, I thought of another interesting question. Which local School District has the most Crew players and which one is 2nd. Depending on how you consider question it might actually be a tie - I believe with 3.
We have correct answers for 8, 9, 11, and 12. An additional correct answer for 8 and 9 is Maryland 2005: Marc Burch, Jason Garey, Robbie Rogers.
That leaves #2, which someone here should remember, and the second answer to #10, which is absurdly difficult.
Close! There’s two tied with 2. Gahanna - 3 - Trapp, Crognale, Abdul Salaam Olentangy - 2 - Horton (Orange), Barson (OHS) Worthington - 2 - O’Rourke, Wiet (both Kilbourne) Olentangy gets a 3rd if you include Berhalter, but he never appeared for Orange. Aidan Morris - New Albany Sebastian Berhalter - Orange Aboubacar Keita - Westerville North Matt Lampson - St. Charles Ben Speas - CVCA Alex Crognale - Gahanna Lincoln Wil Trapp - Gahanna Lincoln Aaron Horton - Orange Isiah Parente - Medina Chad Barson - Olentangy Ben Swanson - Grove City Matt Walker - Batavia Ross Friedman - Bexley Matt Wiet - Worthington Kilbourne Josh Williams - Copley Evan Bush - Lake Catholic Darlington Nagbe - Lakewood St. Eds Konrad Warzycha - Dublin Jerome Saad Abdul Salaam - Gahanna Lincoln Brad Friedel - Bay Village Danny O’Rourke - Worthington Kilbourne Brad Stuver - Twinsburg If TJ Presthus ever signs with the first team, he will make a second New Albany grad.
Me either, but I got going and just decided on listing Crew players from Ohio. Medina isn’t local either, but Parente is a homegrown.
That's why I said depend on how you interpret question. Unlikely academy kids will have played for their HS with any future signings. Berhalter was Orange and I said "school district" so that included Barson from Olentangy. But that was before Orange existed - I think he actually would have went to Orange had it been. I know of at least 3 more potential Orange current/former academy players. 1 is like Morris an import and hoping for a Crew 2 deal. The other 2 are local and playing for D1 schools. I believe there is another attending Orange but I don't know him or much about him. I'm also aware of another import attending New Albany.
Trivia? TRIVIA?! In the the Grouchy™ Points thread?!?!!!! I love it! I also love @JimmyD2, the only smart bastard on the entire message board. Congratulations on the point, and welcome to the GP standings! And U-S-A, U-S-A, U-S-A or something.
I saw a post earlier from the training center and realized I forgot someone Kyle Hyland was a homegrown signed in 2013. He is a product of Bay Village HS - so, while not local, that’s another for Bay.
Been adding since, ya know, I’m a teacher and it’s summer. Other Ohioans Marc Burch - Turpin Steve Gillespie - Brecksville Chris Leitch - Pickerington HS Kenny Schoeni - Sycamore Mark Schulte - Brecksville? Brandon Ward - Westerville I think this is it.
Realest Trivia: Two people with directions as their last names are associated with the Crew roster. Person #1 was a player. Person #2 was a goalkeeper who broke his wrist during the 1996 preseason and never made the official roster. His playing career continued elsewhere. Does anyone know the name of the second player?
To complete the trivia exercise: #2. The first Crew bicycle kick was scored by Ricardo Iribarren. #10. Another Crew draftee who played 15 MLS seasons was Ramiro Corrales, drafted by the Crew in 1996 and immediately traded. The 3rd Crew player who also played for Nottingham Forest was Ian Woan.
