CREW / NYCFC Our Columbus Crew, losers of eight of the last nine matches, bring their injured and demoralized zombie football squad home to play the Powder blue Yankee boys, in the game being billed as Zack Steffen's last home match for the black and gold. Come on out to the old kickball field for one last hurrah with our child prodigy goalkeeper as we say goodbye in style, with a meaningless mid-summer match against one of Don Garber's former favorite teams. After this match the schedule makers have given us all a few weeks off in the time out chair to consider what we've done. Below: Higuain (10) feigns effort to recover ball turned-over.
I'm hopeful that the "entertaining" loss vs bottom of the league Colorado Rapids was just the kind of "moral victory" we need to turn this god forsaken, interminable season around. But in reality, if the season ended this weekend after we sent Zack away would more than a few dozen people really care?
Easy win. When we're up 3-0 in the 89th minute and we get a PK called in our favor due to a handball in the box, Steffen will be invited to the other half of the field to score a goal in his final ever Crew game.
I predict a Golazo Bonanza, a display of offensive firepower such as the old footie yard hasn't seen since that ludicrous 2000 ASG. 4 -1 Crew and we send Steffen off in style.
I can't help but worry about the Steffen v Johnson angle of this match, especially if Gregg is in the building as has been his habit.
Steffen stands on his head to get a shutout in his last match in the Tiny Demon Fortress and Sanch gets a late goal to firmly enshrine me into the SanchShine Brigade forever for making sure Zack has 3 points in his last Crew game.
Goodbye, Zack, you stopper of PKs, Crew legend, Adonis. We did not deserve you. We will suffer without you. We will miss you. But, we will have the memories, always the memories, until we drink them away. Go get 'em. Show everyone what we've known since the day you came into our wretched lives and raised us up out of the filth. One love, Zack. Please take us with you. I kind of hope no one else posts here and this thread remains my own personal pit of misery. Watch as I wallow!
For those interested, here's an image of the local gentlemen's club following the DOUBLE TORNADO NIGHT OF 2019: It's only a half-mile away from my house. I'm not sure if they'll rebuild.
The Whitney Houston nod is beautiful. How is Daughter #1 doing with this quickly approaching loss of Steffen?
I don't what I'm doing so even I can't see the vote results of the poll I made. I am become Charlie Brown. Good grief.
