It would be nice to see Seattle host a Mexico vs USA match. But the closeness of the Crew stadium has that feeling of everyone being right on top of the players. I like the Crew's stadium, and I'm a DCU fan.
We can put Canada anywhere...assuming we ever play them again in a meaningful match. (Costa Rica in Denver does not necessarily = Costa Rica at DSG Park, however...)
Seriously. Mexicans would flood Seattle. The only way it would be plausible to have home field advantage is if you gave tickets to supporters groups, Seattle season ticket holders, AND Portland season ticket holders. Even then, i'm skeptical. People keep talking about the need for a bigger stadium for this match. The reason we are able to manipulate the attendance to create a home field advantage is largely due to a small stadium size.
Well that may be a biased result. As a Union fan, I like Gilette Stadium. *assuming I ignore this season
There's a definite tendency among younger singers to treat the vocal score as a slow-moving monument rather than an actual song. Like the reverence but it wasn't written to be sung at a snail's pace. I blame reality TV singing shows for the breathy, belting style they're all going for.
One of the exceptional things about being at the game in Columbus was the very moving speech that Frankie Hejduk gave at half time. He said that he had always played for his teammates who might not, for one reason or another, been good enough or selected to play at the next level. Frankie mentioned he carried each of them with him whenever he stepped onto the field. He predicted that the United States would step up in the second half and go on and kick Mexico's ass. It was a very personal talk, where he shared from his heart, his own experience as a USMNT player. The crowd was touched by his authenticity.
I wish there was a canonization process for US Soccer, something beyond the US Soccer Hall of Fame, b/c a guy that gave and continues to give as much of himself as Frankie does for US Soccer should be the equivalent of a saint. He and Cobi as of right now are two people that would fit, although with as much hardware as McHead has in his skull, I'd be willing to saint him too. Maybe we should just borrow the British system and decide to call them Sir Cobi, or Sir McHead. Sir Hejduk sounds pretty good to me, but you know he would always reply, "Just call me Frankie."
Probably the most "real" person, I have ever seen behind a microphone, ever. Not one moment was he pretending to be anyone or anything other than Frankie. Typically, at half time there are many distractions. You could hear a pin drop, when he was speaking, believe me it was compelling and unusual.
Cero complaints against Columbus DOS props to the fans that showed we got footie fans like the best of them. Hola Brazil!
I think Frankie was still a little bit sauced from the night before... Dude was a mess, he definitely likes to party.
http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/life_and_entertainment/2013/03/12/brand-new-game.html This is from the Columbus Dispatch on his role with the Crew. Definitely the happiest, most outgoing person I've ever met! Never seen anyone love life more than him.
I have only one complaint, and it has nothing to do with Columbus or the game. It has to do with the procession. Those kids who accompany the players onto the field are having one of the biggest days of their lives. I thought it was in horrible taste to turn all those kids into f***ing billboards for McDonalds. Sheesh. Give the kids miniature US National jerseys, something they can be proud to show their kids someday. "Yes son, this is the official McDonald's 'I'm lovin' it' jersey I wore on that famous day in 2013." ------RM
That's where I want Costa Rica from now on. At the "Dick," which is technically Commerce City not Denver. If that snow game bothers them so much, have them go there and be reminded of it. That is, as is the case for any of these stadiums, as long as we have success.
We don't need to change anything about this match. That's just crazy talk. 2-0, 2-0, 2-0 and 2-0 speaks for itself. You don't tempt fate and mess with a good thing.
