Use a recorded version of the anthem played by a military band...or bring the band in to perform live with a color guard. Can't really fault the fans for out singing the soloist (or the soloist...who has to keep going). The television audio techs are controlled by the producer who has the final say in how the audio mix is broadcast. They are always muted to a degree to feature the play-by-play and color commentary announcers. Years ago a station tried a silent-booth broadcast with no commentary, and an attempt to let the stadium attendees set the mood for the watchers at home (can't remember the sport or the venue). Coming out of a TV audio, it didn't enhance the viewing/listening experience enough, nor was it received positively enough for them to try it again. The fact that the chanting is "R" rated means the audio guys are then told to warble the reality into white noise, and render it unintelligible. My father was an audio tech guy for live TV broadcasts (SNL, among other shows). Not really sure yankeeRoyal why you started a thread that picked out three rather innocuous items following a home match in which we earned our way to Brazil by beating Mexico 2-0!??
I heard them start the "U-S-A score a goal it's really very simple" chant around the 30' and the crowd noise vanished from the broadcast. I'm going to go with they wanted a PG broadcast.
agree with 1 and 2 strongly... not so much on 3... though, that could be b/c I have a surround system properly set up in my living room ;P
Was at the game. Anthem was slow but sitting at midfield, crowd and anthem singer were about as close together as I've heard in awhile. Wouldn't be surprised if it sounded bad on TV with the different mic delays. And the stadium was absolutely rocking. A few full moments here and there but that was the best atmosphere I've ever seen at a soccer game. Ever. There is not a stadium in this country where we could get a higher percentage pro-US crowd that Columbus Crew Stadium. 95/5. Put it in the middle of nowhere and Mexican fans will be more willing to travel than Americans. Put it in a large stadium (yes, even Seattle) and masses of Mexicans will enter. This game was perfect. Seriously: how insane is it that it ended 2-0 again.
Maybe if AO actually flew those capos out to the match, and they had a bigger sound system to use, we would have won 10-0.
All I know is if this were in Seattle, Dempsey would have converted the PK and then Seattle would have trademarked "Tres a Cero" and sue Columbus for copyright issues regarding Dos a Cero. I am pretty sure I will read that somewhere....
It's funny, I watched in Spanish and the crowd's volume was way lower than on ESPN. Still, I would not mind Crew stadium getting a La Bombonera-esque face lift. We can get more seats in there and just have it be completely nuts. Good job Columbus.
I was at the match and my only complaint is there wasn't any apparent coordination between the north and south end supporter sections. In the north end we had the PA system set up which helped coordinate everything (though the guy on the mic doesn't need to sing the entire song...), but talking to some buddies in the south end they didn't have this. They said at some point some sections just started doing their own thing. If having the supporters section on both ends become the norm they need to come up with a better solution.
I have an idea, but it relates to yankeeRoyal being a poster who like to troll for responses or flame, and feminine hygiene products.
"Things weird people complain about after their team clinches a World Cup spot."?? I was never very good at 10,000 Pyramid anyways.
The solution is no cappos. We did fine without them for the first 3 2-0 beat downs, explain to me why we need to change. You could actually hear the north end idiot speakers in the south end stands. A buddy that was in the north end told me they unplugged the speakers in front of his section at halftime. Quite simply, this venue for this event does not need orchestrated chanting. It detracts from the atmosphere.
I had to watch the game on a local Spanish broadcast channel because I don't have cable. #firstworldproblems
