Interesting game do far. 4 yellows and a red this far through '78. Some taking points: Obviously the red for stiking. Thought the challenge from behind by Moor could have been red but okay with yellow. Lots of repeated fouls by Colorado against Luna and Ferreria.
Caution for Dallas wasting time. Maybe someone can confirm this but I think Villareal has nearly had as many cards in this game as he had had the while season before (think it was 7Y, 1R). And now 5 minutes of stoppage. Edit: Full time 6Y, 1R. Last yellow was for encroaching on a IDK.
I've got no problem with the red on Castrillon, but the whole situation could have been handled better I think. John getting off scot free bugs me. First he forced the contact then embellished it after the fact. Again, Castrillon did put his boot into John's face, so I have no issue with the red, but it feels like John got away with one.
The intensity seems to be really picking up now. I didn't see the whole match, but from what I did see it looked like the players didn't give him a lot of respect.
I think this is a fair comment (disclosure: I am a Rapids fan, was sitting in the 3 Lions watching the match). Castrillon deserved to be sent off - unfortunately, the Dallas player did force the contact and then definitely embellished the result. Life's not fair - when you were born, before you had done anything wrong, the doctor held you up and smacked your bottom. (Ok, so probably not really, depending on your age, but I've seen it on TV.)
I also think that was a fair comment-- when I first looked at the incident I felt similarly. And you could see Castrillon going to the AR to make his case--not to protest his red card, but to make the same point that Jasonma was making. However, when you watch the replay, what would you actually call on the Dallas player? I think it's fair to say that the very first contact looked incidental. He was looking at the ball, running straight at the ball and, if anything, you might make a case that it was he who was carelessly tripped by Castrillon. But I think a no-call is much more sensible, so we've got nothing so far. Then what? The Dallas player does get up and his movement/action goes toward Castrillon. So he's initiating the contact, yes. But where else was he supposed to go? Was there enough of an action there to warrant anything? And if you say, "yes," and want to give a yellow card for some sort of balance, remember that the restart is now going to be a DFK 19 yards out to Colorado. Does that change your opinion? Plus, look at Carrillon's eyes the moment the ball is played upfield. They focus entirely on the fallen Dallas player. He didn't have to move through him and he knew it, but he chose to do so. I think it was a fair observation but, in total, it just never reaches the point to call something on Dallas, in my opinion. And Villarreal was--it appears--always looking right at it, as he undoubtedly sensed something could occur. Red card to Colorado and nothing to Dallas seemed right for this particular incident.
http://www.mlssoccer.com/video/2012/08/11/yellow-moor-booked Maybe I'm wrong here, but isn't this a red card? Or is this acceptable in MLS? Is there any attempt to play the ball here? It's a total cheap shot. Didn't John Terry do the same thing against Sanchez in the Barca Chelsea tie?
Well, in that instance, if you call the first foul you probably don't have that issue... Not sure on the game temperature at the time but that definitely looked like SFP to me... No attempt to play the ball, put knee in front to trip him, and gave a violent shove to the back. Worse, it was right in front of the benches. I would have pulled the red.
I'd call it VC. "In the opinion of the referee" Moore wasn't challenging for the ball, therefore it has to be VC.
