With apologies to Goodsport: ----- Interesting enough for this season, Rapid Colorado and San Jose have 3 midweek fixtures with this being the last (and two of them being at Denver this season). The next game they play each other will be, thankfully, in San Jose next month. Let's see if the lads can rebound after the Friday night thrashing they encountered against DC. This will be a good test if the Quakes can be resilient after having their unbeaten streak come to an end, and having probably their best defender at this stage, Danny Califf, sit out due to points (fouls) accumulation. ----- Discuss! GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!!
I would be happy if Quakes will get out of there with a point. Absolutely not sure, what kind of lineup I'd like to see, though. Defnitely, I wouldn't want to see the "dead meat" Moreno-Cerritos pair of forwards in the lineup again, so I hope that Dominic will start Nash, or even better - the new Romanian forward.
I think we should be able to get a win in this one. Colorado looked almost as bad as we did yesterday, at least in the first half against the Metros. But they will be coming off a road trip too with one days less rest. Their midfield is nothing like DC's, and I think the Quakes depend on dominating midfiled more than anything else with the style we play. It woiuld be nice to see something new at forward but it's not gonna happen, we'll get Ronald and Moreno again. Both of them were fairly ineffective against the Quakes at Spartan, but with Dero and Clark in the middle I still think we can beat Colorado. I'm not so sure Nash is ready to go 90 minutes though, it's a bit hard to say based on the limited time we've seen him get but he hasn't done anything much better than the other forwards either. Wish Ching would get healthy. Robinson will have his hands full, I'm sure he'll be responsible for marking Cunningham and I'd expect to see Gray fill in for Danny again, probably with Hart playing right back. I'm thinking if Dero has a good game that we can win this one.
lets take 3 boys i hope you got that crappy playing thing out of your system and are locked in for the win
Colorado's not a real good team, but I expect a tough match. It's always tough to score against Joe, and then the team isn't really generating a lot of chances to begin with. And then there's Cunningham to deal with. It'll probably be another 1-0 game.
And one more about Colorado in which The Joe has once again literally carried the team over his shoulders. Without him, this team could probably be even worse than Chivas USA. If only he had the support in front of him, they could be contenders. The lads can't take this team lying down.
I'm very much inclined to agree. I'm losing a lot of my original confidence in Moreno. Dero will def be key. Any more word on that Romanian guy? After the initial rumors I haven't heard much else.
OK I hope we win somewhere in the neighborhood of 3-1 or so, and oh my god I hope Cunningham scores their goal! Hannah
"Weekly update: Starting over" (Monday, 7/18/05) Alejandro Moreno was the hero against the Rapids in June. (John Todd/MLS/WireImage.com) Danny O'Rourke and the Quakes topped Amado Guevara and the Metros 1-0 on May 7. (Rich Schultz/MLS/WireImage.com) GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
he'll have to be dumb to rip off his jersey again.. he's gotta watch for points accumulation now that rule is so not cool
oh crud why do they do this to us? (i know its the local FSN not airing it.. i still like to file it under conspiracy though)
I haven't had the chance to catch up in the DC post-game thread, but I was not impressed with Gray's game there. Looked to me like Moreno, Adu, Gros, and Gomez used him at will- his marking was too loose, and he didn't make his tackles when we needed them. If Dom saw the same problems I did, don't expect to see him at CB- Cochrane will be in. I can't say I'm happy about it, but Kelly has to settle down again before we risk him in center. DougO
I wouldn't mind seeing Cochrane at CB. I'm not as down on him as a lot of people on here are. He has trouble winning balls in the air and he isn't good enough yet to be an everyday starter (probably never will be at CB since you can't teach height or jumping ability) but as a 3rd or 4th option at CB he's fine. He isn't Eddie or Danny but who is?? Robinson will mark Cunningham, their other starter up top will likely be Luichi Gonzalez (there's another ex-Quake we could use back in the fold right about now) who is a good player but not really dangerous in the air. And on set pieces you'll also have Gray, Clark, and DeRo or O'Rourke back there helping out. Cochrane will be fine.
LOL, i think a few others came closer to a heart attack when ya offered to streak around the neighbourhood!
I'm really wary of Cochrane, he just seems like an accident waiting to happen, think i'd still rather see Gray, if he has another bad game maybe time to sit him, but I wouldn't want to judge any player on the Dc game since every one of em underperformed. One thing is for certain, the defense is stretched super thin, losing Califf or ERo poses serious problems for the team.
