Because they just aren't good enough.

In one of the threads I posted every first round failure in MLS and they are almost about 80% failures after being highly saught after.

It's in the post game thread but here's the quakes part I talk about with our draft picks and never really being taken serious.

Alvarez, Amarikwa, Barrett, Beitashour, Cocrhane, Conway, Dunivant, Goldthwaite, Levesque, Lewis, Morrow, Mulrooney, Opara, O'Rourke, Robinson, Russell, Salinas, Saunders, Waibel, and Wondolowski have produced a good solid career.

    In comparison,
Montoya, Annichero, McDonald, Onalfo, Rodriguez, Porter, Weaver, Rueda, Soto, Krakowiak, Clark, Viera, Farias, Farace, Mulraine, Evans, Ragusa, Narine, Hemmerich, Carrieri, Eidelwein, Woolfolk, Jorge Martinez, Luchi Gonzalez, Roner, Sakuda, Ozimek, Biddle, Lyssand, Walker, Maliza, Sanfilippo, Cronin, Wilson, Pecorelli, Pusek, Dombrowski, Arbelaez, Ramirez, Klaas, Jallow, Twellman, Brett Rodriguez, Fulton, Merl, Smarte, Bonnenkamp, Curry, Jepson, Ring, Thomas, Hoxie, Ampaipitakwong, Tuttle, Cortez, Garza, Hustedt, Blais, Diaz-Pizarro, Tiemstra, Kiffe, Krumpe, Muller, Delgado, Mitchell, McGlinn, Koval, Sofia, Corrado, Dubose, Knutsen, Broome, Mez, Hodan, Colvey, Tyler Thompson, Mfeka, Thierjung, Schilder, Thiaw, Partida, Rivas, Camara, and Anue never have, and never will amount to any MLS Quality and some of these guys were highly regarded.

The interesting thing I found, since Fioranelli has taken over, we've passed on 5 total draft picks, so we aren't even using all of our draft picks in the god damn draft.

When Kaval went to Europe to look for a "Big Time GM" he talked to GMs in the Eredivisie. He could have hired one of those guys, but instead, he hired Jesse. I like Jesse, but damn, he hasn't brought in very many good players.

While I recorded the game, I saw the half time score of 1-0 and thought that I would watch it. Accidently looked at my phone and saw a notification with the final score. Didn't watch the game.

It's really telling that almost no one is commenting on the game itself.

How to move forward? It's time to move on from Jesse, and at this point, possibly MA (I'm much closer). The problem is who has the vision of what is next for the Quakes. If that doesn't exist, then stick with MA for another year and start bringing in players next year and building on the youth (really only Lima and Yuell).

Move onto Leitch and another coach (Ian or otherwise). We may a brief uptick in success, but long term, I still have my doubts because of the ownership.

I'm impressed that you took the time to find all these names and type them out, but, I wonder how many people here bothered to read through them all? I certainly didn't. Sometimes one can provide too much information.:)

You write this wall of text, yet you don't understand my response. You are complaining that Jessie did not use those draft picks, then go on to essentially say draft picks are more often than not useless.

My reply was why pick the players at all if you know they will not be kept. It is a waste of resources.

I think the reason you do it (and don't not use picks) is that it is such a low-cost and low-risk way to potentially discover talent. It's certainly less risky than importing prospects from obscure teams in obscure leagues overseas...

Oh it cut off half of what I typed, late round picks who have no stock generally pan out more then early round guys.

You said jesse hadn't brought many good players and I agree. Also everyone keeps kicking the guys Almeyda brought rightly so. I may get bashed for this, but Vega: (only claim to fame was being part of riBer being in la B) Rios: (journey man that once played for riBer and wasn't good) Fierro: (a major promise that never went anywhere) are probably the 3 cheapest players that Almeyda could get and that he knew, under the money Fisher was giving him and jesse to play with. Sure, it's backfired big times but they most likely played it safe by getting cheap guys that are known to at least the coach as opposed to taking a chance on unknowns. Again, things have soured bad, but I still believe you give a coach like Almeyda a decent money and he'll give you a great team....

    This exactly.

    1. Use all of our draft picks every year. If you don't know who to pick, take either a CB or an outside back or maybe a striker if he's either really fast or really tall. But take the draft picks, because they are free.

    2. Send those guys to Reno (or wherever) to see if you can make something of them.

    3. Be patient.

    4. While you're being patient, every season there are guys who get drafted, and then cut. Some of those guys are guys we were looking at, should they be availble on our turn. Take those guys. Take any other guys who might be of use, even if other teams rejected them.

    5. Send those guys to Reno (or wherever). Rinse and repeat.

Now there's an excellent chance that you'll end up cutting 75% of those guys. Of the 25% you keep, most will only play in Reno. BUT, you might occassionally find a decent player. They don't have to be world beaters, just good enough to be subs and you're ahead of the game. The point is to find at least some players inexpensively.

In addition to this, we should be scouting high schools and community colleges so that we can find some players before they waste four years in the college game.

In addition to this, we should be scouting leagues where we can afford to buy the starters.

In addition to this, we should be scouting some top flight leagues where in order to sign a player we would need to break out the check book and write a DP sized check.

It has to be a multi-pronged approach. We need to look lots of places. We need to think about signing youngsters from somene else's development program.

But I'm sure we all agree on this as we've discussed it many times. It's just shocking that the people who run the club haven't worked this our, or if they have, they are just failing to implement this sort of plan.

    Go Quakesfans!!

Sure, if we're willing to hire a whole starting squad of dudes from Argentina or Mexico. But we aren't willing to do that. Sure, Almeyda touched some guys he thought might be good enough, but they aren't. Partly that's on Fisher, but it's partly on Almeyda too, and the fact that we don't have a scouting team (also Fisher).

    I see only two options.

    #1. Better/more expensive players + MA's system

#2. Less talented/cheaper players + another coach's more conservative and traditional system

#1 won't happen because of our owner and the FO's inability to scout and find good players

That leaves us #2. Our current guys may work in a DomBall system and grind out 0-0 draw away and occasional 2-1 wins at home. Even if it works so what, we are going backward because of lack of investment and proper team construction. All other teams are moving forward with their investment, approach and operation.

Why can't Don Garber get involved? Either push Fisher to invest more or to sell to a motivated new owner. The Bay Area deserves a quality MLS team

We already put down our 25% deposit for next season but last night for the first time ever, we turned off the game early, at 0-4. Hubby said we should ask for our deposit back. Things do look rather hopeless for the Quakes.

The faster fans recognize the absolute hopelessness of Fisherball, the better. If you care about soccer in San Jose, don't let Fisher fleece you for another cent. He has made a complete joke of the San Jose Earthquakes.

Money is needed!but it’s needed in the FO first. Scouting, data analytics, etc. I’d love to see the comparison of off field spending compared to other teams, normalized for cost of living.

not stupid, loyal, which is virtuous. sadly we've passed the point of no return. giving this team your money is delaying the inevitable. We must unite and say no to Fisherball.

Why do some of you keep talking about Domball? Chris Leitch played a more traditional system, and it was an all out attacking system that made home games a real joy during that half season.

There are many many options outside of Domball and Zen Man's gimmicky system.

I saw a post on Reddit Quakes sub where the commenter says "would Fisher want to give more money to Almeyda considering how he's ********ed up his recruitment so far?"

And that got me thinking. If I were John Fisher, would I want to continue investing in Almeyda? The roster salary straddles the league average. So why is the team rock bottom in the standings with blowouts after blowouts? Why are guys like Rios and Fierro and Vega making more than half a million each and cannot put a damn ball in the net or prevent one from entering less than 5 times a game, respectively? Why is USMNT call-up Nick Lima on the bench and plays only once every 3 games? Why are all the CBs injured from overtraining? Why are set pieces never defended properly?

Why the ******** is Wondo and other attackers are let to wait on the bench until only 20-30 minutes are left in a game?

Is this coach and his system worth investing more money in, just to get to mid-table standing?

Imagine John Fisher doing math in his head: $15M in current salary, dead bottom. Another extra $5M maybe buys mid-table standings, meanwhile team with $15M in salary are already mid-table in standings.

Basically Fisher can end up spending more with less results when compared to league performance average. So to play like a $25M-roster team, he would have to spend $30-$35M. That is going to be red flag to any ownership, cheap or generous...

Seriously, how do players like JT be able to give any credit to Almeyda's "put your head down and work hard, don't look at stars" bullshit when he consistently play shit-proven players over you? How does JT even take Almeyda seriously? How does Nick Lima take him seriously?

Fishers cheapness and decision making hold us back in more ways than one. Lack of investment in a real academy, poor first team facilities, unwillingness to throw down on a big time DP. He also hired Jesse who by all accounts is not up to it, the latest Innocent type signing is Fierro, Jesse and MA have to own some of that. I think Vega and Rios are more in the $200k range and overall I believe player payroll is more like $8m...but I haven’t seen 2020 player payroll numbers, if anyone has a link to those, that would be interesting. But Fisher clearly put the brakes on spending for 2020 after the wheels completely fell off towards the end of last season and we missed the playoffs again, following one crap season after another. It couldn’t have been more obvious that we needed more than Alanis to come in if we were going to be any better this year - so Fishers role in this is sweeping and for me, this is fully on him.
