The final score is: 0 – 2 GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G P.S. = Please don't post results of other soccer (including MLS) games and other sports' games in this thread until at least 24 hours after they've ended.
I love Nick Lima! Good on him for thumping one of their guys!! Oh, he should have given them their free kick. Not very good there.
Anyone know why Hernan wasn't with the team tonight? (My guess is they are being cautious with him and he will play against Miami.)
Munie continues to impress. Plays quick and simple and doesn't run unnecessary risks. If I'm not mistaken, he's pretty fast as well.
Munie is pretty fast, probably the fastest of our CB's. The Town coach Dan DeGeer called him out last year as one of the fastest guys on the team.
There's been this sort of odd thing where Hernán has played a little bit over the last week or so but Bruce keeps saying he has "a ways to go". Not sure what he's seeing or thinking. He's looked pretty good to me - good enough to be a sub. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't make the bench against Miami either.
That's what I was thinking. When was the last time we had a solid more or less beat-down road win like this? We've only won a few road games the last few years, and they've been kind of minor miracles where we get a goal against the run of play and then hang on for dear life and somehow survive the onslaught. We really could have scored more than 2 goals. There were lots of blown opportunities, not as much with the finishes but with the final balls. Costa's blown cross to Bouda, Espinoza had an off night with his final ball, and then in his 1v1 with Steffen he decided that the best way to score there was to try to hit it through Zack Steffen's body. We are better than Colorado. I feel pretty comfortable saying that. They beat us at PPP but IMO we were the better team in that game too. I think Chris Armas got 2 shades or so more bald tonight.
Beau Leroux is a very good soccer player. We are lucky / smart to have picked him up in the draft. There was a play in the 67th minute where he picked it up on the right touch line and wove his way around 3 players. I think he was fouled at the end of it but they didn't call it. And his passes are purposeful and on point. And then his shot - I know he had a very good shot from distance because he scored a couple of bangers with The Town last year. That shot off the post is what I mean.
I fell asleep around the 50th min, but what I saw in this game made me think the Quakes have a very good chance to beat Miami on Wed. I had watched the Minn vs MIA highlights, and MIA have no defense right now and look mentally beaten down.
Well, if I'm not mistaken we have just matched our away wins record for last year. We're just one off of our total wins for last year, and our big, positive goal differential puts us into a playoff spot in this year's rankings. I agree that Jones has been a missing piece. He was outstanding last night. I cringe every time Daniel makes a face or lays on the turf, and he is into gamesmanship, so that was most of my cringing last night. I did not spend much time cringing about our play, however. The team put in a solid performance with a minimum of stupid gaffs. We are so much more organized and that really showed when we were down to 10 men. This time it was the Rapids who made the errors that we pounces on. Go Quakes!
We have at least one panicky "no, Daniel, please don't be hurt" moment every game. We would have an even better record if he hadn't been injured.
The first half was fairly even but we dominated the 2nd half. We had them in an arm bar. They were pretty toothless and we had lots of good chances. Adding another CM for Bouda was a good sub. We killed the game off. Buck looked good. Bummer about his injury. I’d like to see Nick Fernandez get a shot if Buck is out for a while He’s just coming back from injury and looked really good in his first minutes with The Town last week.
Especially if Messi doesn't show up. (Though I hope for the sake of fans that he does.) Beau and Bouda are both so very good. I can't even remember the last time we had young players who contributed so strongly. Ever? At the beginning of the game, both announcers agreed that the altitude would start to hit our players around the 20th minute, and that we'd be at a major disadvantage after that. But the Rapids players looked way more knackered than ours.
Yeah, Beau and Bouda are really contributing! I'm really happy for Bouda, who's been hanging in there and making the most of his chances. In terms of a young combo, you're sending me back to to 2010, when everyone thought out top draft pick, Ike Opara was going to be the impact player. . . But, our two extra second rounders, Morrow and Beitashour became maybe the best left and right back combo for the next three years. Didn't we compete in the Eastern Conference Championship that year?!

Was it just my imagination or were these guys announcing like they were the Rapids broadcasting crew. Everything seemed to be from the Rapids perspective and the Quakes were the Washington Generals. Seems to happen a lot in our games, like thd Quakes are not really “seen”. There are just a few guys who see us - the Canadian GK guy and Lloyd Sam, and maybe one of two others.
Still upset about losing those two backs, and of course Ike, one of the nicest guys who ever played for our team! But 2010 -- yeah, MLS had the playoffs scrambled in such a way that we played NYRB and won, and moved to the next round against the Rapids. It was November and below freezing when the game started, which didn't stop the Ultras from taking off their shirts, and we lost, as I recall 1-2. We all thought it was a sign that our resurrected team was on the rise. Fifteen years ago.
