Jace Holley has four game winning goals this season. She is a starter at forward with Shyra James injured, but also has played as an attacking midfielder. Better recognize!@jace_holley // #GoBuffs pic.twitter.com/Tt191WSnoY— Colorado Buffaloes Soccer (@CUBuffsSoccer) October 11, 2024
The big issue with this season's team is the inability to score goals. Even against very weak opponents like K-State they struggle to score. Not sure what is causing this as there multiple players that are dangerous in the box (Shyra James, Hope Leyba, Jace Holley) and others like Ava Priest and Juliauna Hayward that are good at setting up teammates.

Feel like the NCAA tournament is slipping away from the Buffaloes. Going to have to do some work in Kansas City
Unfortunately, the team fading as the season progresses has become a habit. I can't figure it out. Priest and Heyward make things happen, but are not good finishers. It appears Hope has hit the wall or possibly is getting more attention with Shyra out. Kind of non-existent. Overall, the crisp passing seen early in the season no longer occurs. This is not the same team we saw against North Carolina. Still have time to right the ship, but it doesn't look likely. This team is very lucky to have a great goalie.

With one regular season match left it’s pretty clear that to make the NCAA tourney will require the Buffs to make a deep run in the Big 12 tournament which begins Wednesday of next week in Kansas City. Currently the Buffs are 54th in the rpi rankings, not high enough to earn an at large bid. In the Big 12 they sit is seventh - Needless to say, a deep run won’t happen without scoring goals which has been an issue for just about the entire conference season.
well at least the coaches don't have a lot of work to do scouting their first round game of the Big12 tournament. They get Utah Wednesday afternoon. Winners get the privilege of taking on TCU Saturday
On a crisp night with a large crowd on hand the Buffs tied Utah 0-0. It was the third nil-nil conference draw this season. The result means the Buffs playing Utah again in the first round of the Big XII tourney Wednesday afternoon in Kansas City. In the first half Utah looked the more likely team to score as they were able to get some quality chances by transitioning quickly when CU was turned over. Fortunately for the Buffs, most of the shots were easily saved. Lack of the ability to finish was the reason why the match ended in a goalless draw. Both sides had some solid opportunities which were wasted with inaccurate shots. CU found more chances in the second half including a flurry of shots in the box in the final two minutes off of a series of corners. The home crowd bid farewell to nine Buffs who will be finishing their time with the program: Lindsey Smith Laura Gouvin* Lola Stanley Racheal Rosen* Jenny Beyer Michael Rosenbaum* Phoenix Dawn Miranda* Shyra James* Hannah Duguid* * Starter for all/much of the season (James missed games/starts due to injury)

It's win or go home for the Buffs. Their RPI is down to 62, so anything short of winning the Big XII title means an end to the season.
Big XII honors the following Buffs: Jordan Nytes (JR) - 1st Team All-Big XII & Goalkeeper of the Year Faith Leyba (SO) - 1st Team All-Big XII Juliauna Hayward (JR) - 2nd Team All-Big XII Jace Holley - All-Freshmen Team

This season, like the 2022 season the sum was less than the parts. It had a lot of experience and talent at keeper, backline, midfield and forward. This teams had more than enough individual talent to finish in the top four in the Big XII and make a run to the conference tourney final as well an at large NCAA bid. Things fell apart beginning the the 1-6 loss at home to TCU. Didn't get to the game, so I don't know what happened andd why it had a lasting impact.
Unfortunately, CU has a pattern of finishing seasons poorly. This team was in the top 20 early—losing a killer to NC—then finished ninth in the Big 12. Ninth, with the best keeper in the league. Borderline unacceptable.
