Colorado (7-12-1, 2-8-0 on the road) at Real Salt Lake (11-7-3, 7-3-1 at home). Rio Tinto Stadium, 8:00 p.m. Four-game losing streak. Larentowicz penned. Third match in eight days. Jet lag. No reason for hope . . . except that it's RSL and the Rocky Mountain Cup is on the line. Discuss . . .
Little known dirty secret: while we're 1W-6L-0T in our last 7, RSL is just 2W-4L-1T. We've conceded 10 goals in those 7 games, RSL has conceded 12. We'll be without our best defensive midfielder, so will they. Somehow I have a better feeling about this one than most of you. At least until I remember the refs have traditionally been bought by RSL for the RMC, just like Open Cup hosting rights. But seriously, I foresee multiple goals on Saturday. Just don't know who for.
sub wynne and moor put pagluta and marshall out there put that young kid in jl's spot bench casey and omar and use edu and ciasco let it be a message that if you dont perform you will be sub'd sick of this shit another lose coming up. but yet will beat swansea
But, if we win this one (and such a big if at this point), it will just be a cruel set up for the next RMC match at home.
Call O'Neill back from the U-18 playoffs? Wells? Moor was pretty ineffectual the one time we tried starting him their earlier this season.
Maybe we should have kept Henao around a little bit longer. I guess it will be Wells or maybe Nane. Either way not real confident about this one.
Man, my mind is mush. MULLAN at D-Mid, pretty sure I have posted that a few times that his skills and motor seem to fit what we need at D-mid. Then we can have 2 offensive wingers hopefully.
according to Chris Bianchi on Twitter last night, in relating a conversation he had post game with Pareja; "Shane O'Neill "definitely" an option for Saturday if Larentowitz yellow isnt pulled". Also from same: the Jaime was held back to be fresh for RSL. Wahl instructed to "stay at home" and some words regarding Mastroeni.
Straight from OP: On substituting Jaime Castrillon and Luis Zapata with Tyson Wahl and Wells Thompson: "Jaime was in the nursery as he was having a knee problem. He has some tendinitis in his knee so we decided to rest Jaime especially with the long stretch that he has had. Luis was experiencing some tiredness so we decided to give him a rest." http://www.coloradorapids.com/news/2012/07/pareja-left-searching-answers-after-loss-toronto
I'm guessing if Moor doesn't start as the D-mid he'll move there at some point during the match. If I remember correctly, he started at D-min in the 3rd match of the season against NY. Obviously, that didn't work out too well. In the previous game, against Philadelphia, OP moved him up to mid some point. (I want to say after the break). In that case, his presence seemed to solidify the defense and deflate the Union's push.
If the coach or any of the players want to prove that this team still has some balls, this would be a good time to show it. If the front office wants to prove that this organization has some balls, this would be the time to show it if this game goes poorly. Even though it is too early to think about playoffs, or being eliminated from them, this game will still be the defining moment in our season. Will they stand up and give (a weakened) Salt Lake team a real contest? Or will be limping to the finish line with their trails between their legs?
We already tried that against RSL last time. Can't say that's a result I'm interested in replicating right now.
We have Silviu Petrescu as center ref. He worked the infamous Mullan-Zakuani match and a few other matches over the years. I've always thought of him as one of the more solid refs. Castrillon, Rivero, and Wahl remain two YCs from being penned. Both teams are coming off painful losses (RSL got brutalized at SJ) and RSL is a bit thin for the match. Beckerman was sent off against SJ, and Morales, Grabavoy and Wingert are gimpy. This could be anything from 0-4 to 4-0. I doubt it will be 1-0 or 1-1.
After the events in Aurora last night and the funeral today for Maria Colaiano I just hope the players, staff, and fans can enjoy a couple of hours of respite tomorrow night, regardless of the score.
For sure. This has been a gut-wrenching day all around. The order, flow, rules and game of soccer itself are an island of sanity in a world gone mad.
No prediction this week. I have no idea where the team is mentally right now. We could go out hair on fire and win 4-0, or we can show up like we don't want to play and lose 4-0. More importantly I hope the players, staff, and fans can get a couple of hours of enjoyment out of the game after a long week. http://view-from-the-couch.blogspot.com/2012/07/rocky-mountain-cup-round-2.html
I'm going to predict we score 1 first, then RSL scores two in the second half. Because I don't have reason to expect anything else, unless it's a shade worse (say, a 3-goal comeback?). And RSL will get the winner off a PK, because I don't think the refs have handed them that yet.
