He defiantly didn’t want Quintero on the national team.

arias I think he just keeps because of how well he performs but just so odd he is always one of the 1st subs but then keeps James on. Arias running 10 miles and 120 minutes into a game still has more legs than a fresh James or Quintero

they are kind of scape goating James... I mean fine I am a James Fan boy but they did take him out and we had how many minutes without him? How many chances did the other players take?

We make it sound like he is the only player that failed. Munoz was MIA and Diaz took the day off.

The coach subs were terrible. I feel everyone is just going we didnt beat the Swiss because James took 2 months off and then went to the MLS.

Instead of we were outcoached, and Lorenzo shit his pants again when it counted and made the wrong choices that game and in his 26 player call up.

James didn't play well the whole tournament.

Muñoz was tired in the last game otherwise great WC

Díaz has a bad WC but nowhere near as bad as James.

James needs to go. We should have never been called with his lack of playing time.

Well it's always about how many players we produce. James and other oldies in the NT is not a measure of how great of a player they are but how poor the new generation is.

Few players emerge in European leagues and of those who go there half are sent to Brazil after a while.

    Very true.

But not even experimenting with a starting lineup that did not include James or JuanFer after Qualifying in September is where Lorenzo has to be held accountable. (He did it once in the Costa Rica send off match when it was arguably too late.)

I keep seeing Puerta as the next number 10 for us. He has the means to lead the midfield.

Rumor next game is Peru and then a concacaf big 3 after the World Cup in September….. in the US

does that mean James has to be called and start?

would like no Diaz or James or anyone over 28. Time to try new younger players for copa America and the next World Cup cycle

obviously Diaz will be on the team if we make it but James, Ospina,Vargas will not.

If you put it in context it's insane that James was called and starting every game when he voluntarily signed a short term contract and wasn't game fit. At his age, Messi at 39 prepared for a year to be in peak shape for this tournament, look at what he's able to do and James makes it seem like he loves the national team and would sacrifice anything, but his actions and work doesn't match that narrative when you compare it to others.

More than likely Peru and then Mexico.

There are also rumors of a European team before the year is over.

I agree with the sentiment of the post--we have a pipeline of talent and a massive disconnect into the mayores because there's no unity among the selecciones.

However, it's silly to compare Olympic results with sub 20 results. 3 years of eligibility sees your team going from having a handful of kids who might be important for clubs, to a roster full of men who should be regulars. An Olympic roster vs a sub 20 is an even bigger difference than a sub 20 vs a sub 17 roster.

And, on that note, we don't even qualify for most Olympics. A lot of that owes to us never being able to utilize our stronger talent, but still. Poor comparison.

Sid always posts random social media posts without proper context or any arguments of substance.
    So we shouldn’t be surprised.

olympics should have been coached by Lorenzo... for some reason we let a cab driver make us looks ridiculous... or at least one of his assistant coaches

Not every manager wants the responsibility of coaching the Senior team and the Youth teams.

To be fair Spain might be the best example of a pipeline and system in world soccer. They have the best depth of coaches it seems in world football, they have a ton of good academies and all the Spanish players in the system are taught a philosophy and identity that goes all the way through to the national team, there is crazy continuity. It's not a coincidence that many of the players were in the system and playing for the national team, De La Fuente was the youth coach, coached in the youth levels and U-23 team and leaned on the same players for his senior squad and they all have been trained under him for years and know his system. That's a great system and the results on the field are clear as day why they are so good, one system, one style and lots of time working and training in that system produces results.

We have good youth players but we don't have the system from top to bottom, we don't have the same quality of coaching and academies and pro teams to train these guys and we aren't leaning on the guys in the youth teams as much as we could or should. We should learn from Spain and try and set up more of a pipeline and system and ensure the guys in the youth teams are given a preference once we can evaluate them over a longer period.

Sids post highlights a key issue with translating talent that goes much further than Lorenzo's selection.

Our two best u23 talents took themselves out of contention with dumb career moves and simply not playing...

There are tons of reasons that contribute to it but it's such a shame. I really hope that Samu Martinez and Escorcia really deliver on what we saw from them in the SA U17s....

It needs to be said though that the US was a shit decision for the players, for logistical reasons and because the summer this specific year has been absolutely atrocious.

on top of the fact that the calendars are already packed to the brim we can add people who are just not fit at their clubs and guys that were already exhausted to begin with.

imagine after all the games people like Diaz have played, having to come play in this hell weather at the highest level, just isn't right. I've been dealing with Miami summers for years and can comfortably say this is the worst one.

If I remember correctly the Qatar world cup was placed during the winter and they even had AC controlled stadiums but here they just threw everyone out in the open

we saw a ton of tired legs halfway through games here and I really don't believe its all on the players.
