The fact that James didn't have a club or prepare for the World Cup should be all she wrote tbh, there is no way he is going to be more serious or dedicated after the World Cup and for a cycle, so he should be dropped and not called. If he's in a club and training and on top form sure call him for the COPA, but the only way to get that is to probably drop him, and we should try other guys.
Rios! Better defensive 1v1 and has more physical attributes than Lerma and infinitly better on the ball, just tell him to sit deeper, I've seen him do that with us and Benfica under Mourinho.
As long as James is a source of revenue for the FCF and sponsors there will be pressure to keep him in the team at the expense of everything else. We will see if Lorenzo continues and what his call ups are for the friendlies.
I think we can play the Villus high press tomorrow with players readily available. We just chose to bet on James because of what he did at the Copa and the last two qualifiers. But if he isnt giving you victory margins sufficient to allow players to rest, you are gonna wear out the team if minutes accumulate.
I thought Rios was fine in his sub appearances and looked especially sharp when we finally got to see him paired with Puerta.
Not from what I saw. He made some really bad decisions defensively and was late to react. Also made it that Puerta had to track back and play more defensive more often which takes away from his game.
Rios really wasn't that bad, look at his defensive duels, Lerma gets a pass for barely doing anything all tournament, he was sitting and barely participating when we had possession and did fine but he wasn't exactly ya stand out player or offered much. The standard we have for Lerma and James is basically they're bad they start, they do nothing they start, they have a good game and their praised as the saviors, its really a big bias for these guys and realistically we still need to replace them if we want to take another step forward.
I don't like Rios playing as a DMF. I prefer him playing as a CM. He's more effective with a DM behind him.
Given how we play I just don't want to dedicate a place in the xi to someone who can't contribute to possession or build up anymore. We don't need to. You watch most of these WC games and a lot of teams don't anymore.
Yeah, but you watch him play and it's super awkward lately which is weird because he was so smooth when he was younger at Nacional!
Puerta was really good and the leader of the U20, those guys typically are flagged and given chances for good reason within the system. Solis hasn't had the same prominence and isn't given chances, but there is a good prospect there but still we need to bring him in. Rios I know what his skillset is, we don't even necessarily need a pure CDM, both Rios and Puerta typically play in a double pivot give either one freedom to move forward with a a fluid midfield, when we don't have Lerma and James our midfield would be much more dynamic not having to cover for specific deficiencies, that makes us much harder to play against.
If we want more goals we probably need to play an actual wide forward and give up some control in midfield, think that all comes from the midfield and without James offering much offensively I don't see a reason to carry him anymore. Play Gomes wide and bring Arias central, or play Arias there still and have him hold that flank more. Realistically the biggest reason we didn't score more goals this tournament was largely down to Diaz, he had chances and he was our star and the guy who plays were designed to end at his feet and he was offside or not effective, so in our system as set up now we kind of got what we wanted often but Diaz was just not effective. If we want to change the system and style the best way to do that is to limit the bodies in midfield and hold better spacing in the 3 forwards vs what we're doing now with 2 forwards and a fullback making late runs on the right.
Europeans who comment on players were saying he was just meh. I trust what I see on the field. Solis is a future starter for the Seleccion.
I never did... he was the captain of the U20.. he's been underrated and it was upsetting because only 2nd league teams wanted him. Solis is another version of Cabal
You said Solis is only hyped up by us. Now you are saying he is Cabal who was hyped up by Europeans and got transferred to Juve because of that hype. Whatever. I saw Cabal immediately and knew he was a younger, bit more flexible version of Tesillo. That was his ceiling and he could still be useful in qualifying since LB depth sucks. Solis is something quite different. The way he ended the season at Birmingham was pretty solid and his role was established. He was a decent link between the back line and midfield. Sometimes even looking like a fifth defender in the back line. We can use that in the near future.
