Well as much as I hate the new format of 48 teams I guess it saves conmebol. At least we can enjoy a little group-stage football. I don't see a good future of south american football to be honest. Without the cheating there would be 6 european teams and 2 african ones in quarter finals, and that in a tournament where our teams are heavily favored in terms of attendance. There are more africans than south americans playing in europe so I don't expect much to change in the future. Europe will remain on top because 100% of their players play there, so they will always get at least 5 teams in quarter finals. Then 2-3 spots for the rest of the world. In 2010 there were 5 non european teams in last 8, and I thought that was the future. But after that europe has been more dominant than ever. Now I just want to see more teams get eliminated and get this WC overwith.
He nails it. He could be the guy to change our trajectory, he has enough status and clearly recognizes the problems start at the top the Federation and the clubs need to be over hauled, we have insane talent right now some of the best in the region but we need to sort out and evolve from the top to maximize the moment.
This. Emery plays with 2 8s and a 5, or the other way around. Same with Arsenal. I'd say that even Argentina plays with 3 8s, and while Messi is still there, he plays more like a striker or a false 9, and you can see them struggling to cover for him on defense. You can't afford a player not deffending in today's football.
Emery describes them as 10s, and you watch Odegaard for Norway and he is playing as a 10. I just think the position has evolved naturally and we have athletes that can do it...as Arias does. Speaking of Arias he appears to make an argument to not "Colombianate" here. Doogs IS Arias? https://www.threads.com/@primertiem...g36AHkgyhoXlWmd-pjg1IWkR-8UrzCLi1Rj6t5&slof=1
I want to talk about player pools and how many players should be called up and tactics and 10s and how they should play in a modern fashion but it is all meaningless to me without knowing who the manager will be. I will say though what I have been saying for weeks now. Suarez benefited from scoring four goals against Venezuela but since then has done pretty much nothing in real games against real teams. Also, I will always believe that the injuries suffered by Sini and bad attitude of/ bad decisions by Duran hurt our offensive punch as much as any other factors this cycle.
Who would your ideal manager be? For context, here are the reported salaries of Colombia’s last four full-time managers: Néstor Lorenzo: around US $2.2M–$2.4M per year Reinaldo Rueda: around US $3M–$3.5M per year, likely including staff Carlos Queiroz: around US $3M per year, possibly around US $3.5M with staff José Pékerman: US$1.68M per year reported in 2014, then later years to US $3M per year
i have some thoughts that i am trying to pull together, but i will say that 1. For anyone who is following Sinisterra on social media, all his recent posts have been positive content of putting in strength training and getting himself into top shape. 2. Duran - if you follow his content, it's mostly MTV cribs content... take both with a grain of salt, but at least I have hope for someone like Sinisterra...
Unfortunately I do not have an ideal manager who could clean up this mess or put up with the Federation. Maybe Alfaro but he probably would not put up with the Federation. He also would be criticized unmercifully if he had us playing like Paraguay against France. I still like Gareca but he really has not done much since taking Peru to the W.C. But that just means we could get him at a discount. Maybe some other Argentine trying to make a name for himself. But many of those dudes do not know Colombian futbol. Maybe thinking outside the box and getting Palmeiras’ manager but he would be asking for way more than twice the amount Lorenzo is making. Also not sure he wants to leave Brasil for a new country and not sure he wants the pressure of international futbol.
You wouldn't like Luis Perea as a candidate, who can pretty much continue the Nestor Lorenzo/Pekerman Cycle?
I hope Sini can be healthy late 2027/ early ‘28 and competes for a spot on the Copa America roster. But I am not holding my breath on that one. Duran just needs to grow up and act like a man. If he can do that he will be on the roster.
Its our mentality and failure to raise up to the ocassion. Some of yall questioned was i am so pessimistic about this team and is precisely because of that. Time and time again we fail to live up to the expectations and this team was no different. Our players lack the jerarquia to put away games and not to mention lack of preparedness and improvisation all the way from the top of FCF to the players themselves Did anyone notice how when we needed to decide if we wanted to kick the first PK Davinson had to go ask Vargas? that tells me they did not plan well for them. So i had mild expectations and feel down but not devastated. I felt devastated with the way our people voted recently tbh.
the sad thing is guys, not much is likely to change because our futbol is captured by mafioso degenerates whose top priority is to make money for them. futbol comes second.
We are arguably the second best team in CONMEBOL this cycle. We were a few bounces away from winning Copa America. We had a Sub 20 team that got third place in WC and a Sub 17 team that won the Sudamericano trophy. We have a lot of good young talent and players who did not make the squad. It is not all gloom and doom. There are building blocks to work with next cycle. Now, I am not going to say we will win in Spain 2030 but competing for the Copa America should be the goal. Then hopefully making a run in the W.C. And building off of some CONMEBOL success. But as we have seen it will take a good tactical approach AND players stepping up and leaders leading.
Mostly agree, but I think the goal should be winning the Copa América and reaching World Cup semifinals as a minimum expectation.
Yes but that definition moves away from the classical definition into something else, 6 was CDM, 8 was box to box or beside CDM and the 10 was center midfield with creative license with defensive cover behind him, Odegaard doesn't sit in front of a pivot, he's in a midfield 3 and has defensive responsibility and tactical discipline on both sides and positioning. KDB often played there still, even though he defended and was more responsible, we are the last guys of true 10s, Neymar was another and obviously Messi, super offensive talents given license and not asked to defend to preserve for their offensive output. The players and tactics have evolved the position as it was defined is dead mainly for most teams in its classical original sense, Arias playing as a 10 and given freedom still wouldn't be like James or Quintero because he defends and works like a dog and also makes runs off the ball, Neymar, James, Quintero don't make runs they need ball to feet. Really we don't disagree just seems like semantic choice of how we approach it, just want guys who play the position like Odegaard and Tielemans, be creative but fit into a system in multiple roles and we don't ned to carry you defensively.
We're going to need a lot of new faces, since the team is really old, and most of them will be over 30 by next WC. These are the guys that could make it, but some of them will be in a very different role or phase in their careers: Diaz 29 Muñoz 30 Lucumi 27 Castaño 25 Rios 26 Carrascal 28 John Arias 28 Puerta 22 Campaz 26 Sanchez 29 Montero 31 Gomez 23
I think we probably need to commit fully to youth and get these guys ready and playing and help young prospects get into good leagues. If that means we will sacrifice somewhat our chances of winning the COPA I'm ok with that, mostly that's just a few guys who should be let go, but we have to give some younger players more chances Lerma, James, can't be played every game non stop and then we say we don't have replacements, give the young midfielders chances and commit to the turnover.
At Keeper we need new faces. LB and RB- We need a lot of new faces. 9 we need to pray for new faces. A Lot of the Sub 20 and Sub 17 guys must be given chances. Everywhere else we can pretty much rely on the list you provided and guys that barely missed the cut
And since no one has really brought it up we must hire some PK guru or specialist. We have been eliminated via spot kicks in way too many tournaments the last 11 years.
