It is not easy to win back-to-back World Cups so it is not that funny to omit Argentina as a top four team to win.

But I agree, Argentina has a better chance to win than Brasil based on how they are playing.

Honestly if they keep Ancelotti long term I can see them genuinely challenging for 2030. He has enough talent especially young ones to bring them back to their glory days.

I'd say we could win it, if about 8 things happened altogether...

    1. We find effective players in our 3 weak spots (LB, RW, ST).
    2. Everyone stays healthy and at a good level until the end of the tournament.
    3. We get an accesible group, that we win.
    4. We get into the soft side of the bracket, like Uruguay got in 2006, facing beatable opponents, at least until the quarterfinal.
    5. We don't get into any OT, PKs game, at least for rounds of 32, 16 and QF.
    6. When we start facing the tough teams, they're tired, full of injuries and/or suspended players.
    7. Someone else takes care of the most difficult teams (France, Argentina, Spain) before the final.
    8. Our team doesn't choke at the final stages, when glory is close.

    Yeah, very slim chances.

OTOH, I think we're going to be a tough rival, someone most teams don't want to face, and I kind of understand why to some we might look like a top team, but we're not.

We are (likely) playing in the USA and will basically be the home team.
That in itself makes me say anything less than the Quarters is a failure.

Our mentality sucks in some ways. We all know that.
    HOWEVER,
Euro teams are going to bitch and complain and groan about things like travel and field conditions and heat and humidity . Colombians will not care about such variables . We know we can make a deep run as we did in the Copa America and we will not be deterred by those factors. That can be the mental edge we need to make it to a Semi.

But yes. I would not bet on it. We need a lot of things to go our way.

patino was not a bad player nor was grisales

Gio Hernandez on 2014-now would be a better Quintero

Wason and Rodallega mid table euro starters …. Not everyone can be falcao, Diaz or James. You need worker bees

issue is none of these guys performed on the National team which was an issue pre and post James until Lorenzo got James back on the team

now how will we be in 2026 after the wc when James retires. Even if he doesn’t we need to look at the future not revolve on a 38 year old play maker and his hobbit childhood friend as his backup

El Principe Hernandez could have been so much more...

And Wason was actually super talented and promising early until he just seemed to lose it.

Yeah. I just think he lacked the right coaching at the right moment. His technique was wonderful and he had sufficient athleticism and his vision was great -> if he'd had the chance to play his game at River or one of these Brasilian mega powers, he would have cooked. He just stayed too long in Colombia and then toiled what should have been his best years in the wrong tier and never got the coach that understood how to take him to next level.

Like everything in life, so much comes to chance. He didn't give that much more but I do think with just a bit more circumstance to his favor he could have gone much further

him I remember, extremely technical, always until the end of his career. I have a feeling he'd have been injury prone if he played anywhere at a remotely fast pace
