Lerma plus 3 cb's 2 of which are not great on the ball would be a nightmare in build up, added by Mojica being bad in build up and fairy one dimensional. We'd have James coming deeper to help and Diaz all by himself when you want to get him on the ball plenty. Drop Lerma and Mojica and it's better, Castano would be much better but build up would still be difficult with those CB's.

You could do something like this

    Cuesta-Mina-Lucumi
    Munoz--Rios--Castano--Arias
    -------------James
    -------Suarez-----Diaz

Arias can play as a wing back, I would want Suarez playing on this form, James is given a free roll and we have our best ball playing CB's to avoid build up problems with 2 many CB's plus Lerma. I just don't think Lerma should start in any formation tbh, he's been bad and isn't playing as a midfielder for club for months.

We have often had talent that would fit a 3-5-2 better, esp in the era we had Yepes, Cordoba and Amaranto... And we've never done it.

Actually hypothetically if Cabal was healthy he'd be perfect in that left CB roll since that's his natural position, and it could fluidly be a 3-5-2 or 4-3-3 at times. Really wouldn't be too much different from what we have now except you'r removing Mojica and putting a more stay at home CB/LB profile and move Arias over and allow Diaz more freedom to move central.

And we won't do it this cycle.

Maybe next cycle if we hire a European.

And hence the issue with a back 3. As it is, even forgetting about a player that has barely had ANY NT influence like Cabal, we dont have enough CBs that can fill this role. My heart loves a good offensive 3 back and attack the hell out of a team but my brain knows that is not Colombia and I don't blame the DT for not giving in to crazy talk.

teams with WORLD CUP titles rarely play this formation. At the highest level (top 20), it's rare to see because the T20 opposition "also attacks" and the risk outweigh the need. Fans want blowouts, DT are happy with a 1-0, 93th minute.

unless James sticks around and anchelotti then signs for us…. I think next is Brazilian or Colombian

maybe Mexican if the guy who won with nacional comes back and has a good 2-3 more years with that club…..

    Seriously

why is Belgium ranked so high?

Over the last, they’ve lost to France, Italy, Israel Ukraine, tied North Macedonia

they haven’t beaten a decent team in over 2 years

    lame

I suspect they're still riding on some of their previous performances, and while they're not top tier anymore, they keep beating the Euro minions handily. But you are correct, according to the ELO ratings, they would be 18th (Colombia is 6th in this method).

6 is way too high for us we had been utter shit for a year and then started winning and we didnt beat anyone remotely good.

Bolivia and Venezuela........ then Mexico...what was our other last big win? We also lost to Bolivia that has to be like 60th place.... I doubt ELO takes into account that Bolivia makes us play in outer space

Copa America final should help our rating but we had been piss poor after that.

The James-Ancelotti pipe dream sounds awesome in theory but he is too expensive. I think it is more likely to get a Euro manager who is younger and trying to to make a name for himself.

We tied Argentina in the Monumental and beat them in Barranquilla. The only team in qualifying to go undefeated against the champions.
    You conveniently forgot those facts.

dude you got banned for being a troll then asked me to talk to the mods for you.....

    so don't talk shit

Also how am I a troll for being WE should WIN the FKING World CUP !! We should have won in 2014 and 2018..... and qualified for 2022(weaker team so my expectations would have been way lower but we should have FKING Qualified !!!)

Now in the US with a passionate fanbase we should win as well. Or at least attempt to win.

We went unbeaten for almost 30 games to being utter shit while the coach wouldn't drop Borre or make subs.

I am a Colombia fan I want my national team to win. sorry I dont gargle Argie balls like half of you do.

Not liking Quintero does not make me a troll. Being annoyed that some of you grandpas still mention fking El Pibe every time James does anything is annoying to me. Saying Bench James for the Midget to me makes 0 sense. If Quintero did play well on the National team when the game starts not after its won then fine.... I'll be happy

I dont like Carrascal either...... but would be insanely happy if he performs like James does on the National team or becomes better. I want all our players to be better than James, Falcao and any other legend we had.

How I pray we get another Zuniga or an Armero who can actually defend. While Munoz is doing better for his Club I don't think he is as good in yellow as Zuniga.

being annoyed at me for being call up 40 players in case of injury or to get them ready to be called in the future is somehow considered being a troll.. Then someone gets a red card, or can't play because of yellows or injured..... OMG no one to call they have 0 minutes on the national team !!

CrZD is just filled with hot takes and devil’s advocate type of questions and analysis.
It is fun for the most part.

Anyway, my current hot take is a scorcher. Carrascal deserves to start at the J Arias spot in November. Especially since Jhon is not really getting much minutes in England.

I think Carrascal is on the WC roster it's up to other guys to take him out. Campaz sucks so will be happy to see him dropped.

We need a Backup for James.... we can give Quintero another shot but against an African team. Him being Thanos with the infinity gauntlet vs New Zealand and scoring 12 goals means nothing.

new LB and RB as well. Please no more Roman.

I like Rios to stay home... was terrible vs Canada and in bad form.

I like to see Garcia be the 3rd gk called and maybe given minutes vs New Zealand deserves it more than Montero.

Monsalve was our only hope for a new backup for James. I do not think he will get healthy and in form by March but hope he does.

LB is pretty much set. Mojica is the guy and backup will be Machado/Angulo/C. Borja.

If Rios stays home I would like to see Solis and Puerta.

Garcia does not deserve to be over Montero. Other than his minutes situation.

While I like Solis from the little I’ve seen him play - I think he will be a 26-30 guy unless
    1. There are injuries and 2. He starts getting 90 minute games for #MyGirona and scores every week

If I had to guess, the NT is pretty much set outside of 4 spots.

Sini’s health could be a path for Carbonero to get a spot (Hinestroza and Campaz really need to show something if they want to go to WC26).

Duran is on a road to Colombinate himself which means Borre-Cordoba-Cucho-Suarez will likely be the strikers.

Guys like Yerson, Cabal may also be 26-30 guys unless they find fitness and form by March.

Backups for Munoz/Mojica are likely going to vets like Santi and Deiver/Borja unless someone new pops up. Roman and Angulo are just “cones” on the field. I know it’s been several years, but man I really loved Zuniga/Armero.

A lot of competition for the midfield spots, reason why we still haven't seen Solis but he'll be called up at some point.

I kinda agree about Solis which is why I alluded to It happening if Rios is left off the roster. That or Lerma getting injured is another scenario as you implied
Maybe he expands the roster like Pekerman did just to see more players this cycle. That remains to be seen.

I am starting to lean the CrZD way and say we cannot depend on guys like Sini (or Mina). To me Carbonero is way ahead of him based on the way he is playing in Brasil. But that can change by March.

Marino is slowly going off the radar. Nacional choking in Libertadores did not help his cause. Campaz gets a lot of hate but he has been okay. As long as he is getting minutes in Argentina I think he will get the nod. I want to see more of Serna who was not mentioned.

Duran can still be on the roster but it is looking less likely. He is healthy again though and played some minutes yesterday. If he plays well he may get another chance.

Agree about Cabal. Yerson though I think will be on the ‘26 roster.

How many teams would be in this world cup?

And this takes me back when I did a FB group to support Colombia's "bid" for the 2026 world cup back in the day...
