Yaser is very versitle and can play 10, JArias position, or wing. I would not be shocked if he is the successor. Monsalve is not like Gio Moreno. Gio was good but was never this good at 20 years old.
Tell me you never saw Gio play without telling me. I wasn't the biggest fan of his, mostly because of lost potential, but the guy had incredible talent.
Thing is the competition we are really focusing on is 2026, us being a great squad now doesn't matter too much if guys fall off and we peaked too early and that peak lead to us not developing our best young talents who are likely to be needed by 2026. I love James but the fact is he's old and very prone to injuries, how he'll look in 26 when it really matters for us is up in the air, so Yaser who is by far the best bet for his role needs to be given time to integrate and build his confidence. Mier should be given every opportunity to win the position, other guys who offer other things should be tried and competition and the squad should be kept hungry in order for us to be at our best in 2026. Lorenzo has done an amazing job with setting up how we play and creating a squad and atmosphere that is better than we've had since 2014, but I fear that is one skillset and now there's another skill to get us to another level while easing in and out players over the next 2 years due to age/competition. Lorenzo has absolutely nailed the hardest parts, if he tweaks a few things and plans ahead now we need to ensure our path and some of that is down to getting the back up options and young players in that squad and ready.
I'm not convinced James will even be ready for next world cup either. I'm hoping by then we won't need him at all
the best player in our history.... yea if we have 3 players better than him by 2026 WOW .. We are winning that shit ! Should focus more on -Better LB than Mojica. -Getting Mier Minutes to see if he is legit. 37 by the cup born in March 1989 - if James isnt playing do we play a different formation? - When we sub out James do we throw someone out there to do his role 80% worst like we currently do with Carrascal and Quintero? God I hope not - Try 3 in the back? - 2 strikers without James? Or more wingers?
coach said might have 2 teams . hahahaha 50 players !!! I won't know going to be in South Korea for the next 2.5 weeks ACKNOWLEDGE ME !!!!
Lorenzo is not going to do two teams and 50 players. He is going to bring in a base of players training at altitude and then bring in some players who play at altitude at club level. He mentioned there would be some surprises, so my guess is five or less new players who usually do not get called from Mexico,Bogota clubs, etc.
thats silly. He can't play James in Bolivia. Dude will die. Vargas I think is out due to Yellows. So Montero or Mier will have to get the Nod. (3 GKs is fine) Are we expecting Mojica and Munoz to run up and down the field with 0 oxygen 4000 feet above sea level then in 2 days start? Rios played there already for his club, Arias maybe did as well. So they can both play dont really think Diaz, James make sense for this game tho. Maybe Lerma as well. One thing is we got lucky last round. Mina being an idiot got taken out of the Argentina game getting a yellow then Cuesta was out due to injury. So didnt really have many options at CB. We need to have enough players or emergency call ups ready.
James probably won't start. Just not sure who will start in his place in the lineup. Last time it was Sini against Peru. Vargas is not out. This may be a match C. Borja starts instead of Mojica. Not sure about Munoz. Diaz is one of our captains and best offensive players. I think it is likely he starts but understand your concern. We have enough players and there can always be more called due to injuries.
At least we don't have the stress of waiting until the final day to see if we get the playoff Even Bolivia has hope of making the WC now
interesting how Chile won CA in 2015 and 2016 but did not make it to 18 and 22 World Cup - anyone with Chilean friends? I would love to know how they feel about that
Which is why I kinda smirked at the Colombia HAS to win Copa bs I know we play for trophies but more than trophies, you play for continuing relevance and performance what did those copas do for them in the long run? They are as irrelevant as ever
Cups don't suddenly dissapear. Are you going to erase Urugay's 2 World Cups because the last one they won was in 1950?. Chile is doing bad recently, but I am pretty sure they loved winning those 2 cups. I know I would have. They have to get their shit together and they wil get back to relevancy.
No one said they did but what did our 2001 copa do for us in that immediate future? We didn’t go to a wc for 13 years Uruguay won a LONG time ago but they are always relevant and that’s the most important thing to me at least. Being able to compete and continue the growth of the sport in the country.
here’s a bunch of examples of teams that won a Cup and had a poor follow up - I think the point is that no one cares about Chile winning 15/16 or us winning 2001 bc the follow up was a failure. Look at Argentina: 21CA, 22WC, 24CA and likely to finish at the top of the wcq is quite the run. Spain 08-12: top of the food chain and may be heading there again now. The poor follow up quickly erases relevancy. It’s funny how commentators are quick to say Colombia beat Argentina 5-0 in 1993 on a regular basis as if that was our biggest highlight rather than saying we won copa America 2001 2001 copa América: we won, Brazil gets eliminated by Honduras 2002 World Cup: Brazil wins. We did not qualify 2004 euro: Greece won, 2006 World Cup: did not qualify 15/16 copa America: Chile won 18/22 world cups: did not qualify 21 euro: Italy wins 18/22 World Cup: did not qualify
Don't forget Egypt with how they dominated African cup of nations 3 times in a row (2006-10) but they still never qualified for the world cup. In fact between 1993 to 2014 they did not qualify in any of those world cups.
