Would be kinda funny to lose to Rueda's Honduras right before the Copa. But I think there's zero chance of that.
Believe it or not, a lot of people are already taking in this feeling. That we need to lose because our heads are getting big whose heads? The fans? The media? Cuz the players definitely are not
Yup. That mediocre colombian mentality where everything is rooted in fear is still very much part of society. Fortunately it has nothing to do with the team which are in their own world
Also a lot of Colombians are moving the needle before was win against top teams so now we do now it’s copa or bust. Why? Colombians always take on this mentality that if we don’t win, our players are soft and quitters as if we are the only team on the field. Same thing happened with Egan and other cyclists, when they weren’t winning it’s because they are soft as if the other countries didn’t have bad ass cyclists that were just better. We are not the most talented nor the most experienced team in copa. We are probably not the best coached either. so while I think Copa should be the objective and it’s never been more attainable than now, it shouldn’t be that or bust. You only can demand trophies like that when you are clearly the best team and that we are not. I have a good feeling though
Contrary to what odds makers say I truly believe that we are favorites after Argentina to win the Copa. If we win it, it will be glorious. Miami will be celebrating with people in yellow jerseys for days. One gigantic party. If we lose it or don't even make the Final it will feel like a failed objective to me... ... BUT we have a good Veteran base and a bunch of young players to transition into qualifiers to improve. That would be the only consolation.
Maybe this is just me but I like the idea of our players not being a bunch of pussies and actually having the ignorance/confidence to strike the fear into our opponents. I've been very open about how when we reach deep into a tournament, a major reason why we tend to get knocked out is because our players are shook and somehow play less than stellar despite them showcasing how well they can play against even the best of opponents. This team as you said has a unique mentality compared to the fans as it should be with any team. If we can overcome that mental issue that has plagued us for so long, this team could get the results needed to win trophies and glory for Colombia. I know that we have the capability to challenge anyone for this Copa America if we maintain that discipline as well as progressing even further in the world cup come 2026 and possibly win that too.
Rumors from Colombia that we are apparently gonna have Bolivia as our second pre-copa america warm up. So them and the US...I was hoping for real challenges but the timing is limited sadly.
I think that's ok though. These pre-matches are set up to fine tune our line-ups and strategy while entering the tournament with some confidence and hopefully injury free. What's the point of playing Argentina or Uruguay in a friendly before the official games where those matches will require a higher physical and mental push from our players. The US (at their home) and Bolivia are still worthy opponents. Plus we still have to play Bolivia 2x in WCQ so it's another opportunity for our coaching staff to get to know more about how we can play against them in both legs.
Bolivia is a game for our subs haha tho would be hilarious if they break our streak again rather we lose before knockout rounds to get that pressure off us and win another title
We will have pressure no matter what. Lorenzo has already said the objective is to win the Copa America. That alone will put pressure on the team cause there's already the usual media suspects (Velez) who are saying anything less than an appearance in the Final is a failure.
That's a good mindset to have. We needed a coach who isn't shy about wanting success and a significant improvement in our football attitude as a whole.
I was just thinking now that I think its also sort of strange that Jaminton Campaz has not gotten called up, he would be another alternative in that central attacking role. He was a total star last season for Rosario Central
Campaz is great. Maybe Lorenzo just views him as a Left wing cause that is mostly what he plays at Rosario. It does not look like he will be called to the Copa but he could be a key for us going forward in Qualifying. I think Valoyes has been injured in Mexico and really has not been consistent since moving there.
Also it seems like Lorenzo would have rather have seen more of Poveda than Campaz. He can play both wings pretty well. Sucks for him he got injured before these last two friendlies.
According to RCN the first Friendly prior to the Copa America against the USA will be Saturday June 8th at 5:30 PM EST in the DC area, Landover, Maryland. One week later on Saturday the 15th will be the Bolivia match. A stadium venue and kickoff time has not been confirmed yet.
As for Television... ... the match against The United States will be on TNT in English and streaming on Peacock. Telemundo, Universo in Spanish and Telemundo Deportes app stream. The Bolivia match will probably be pay-per-view.
*Update- The Colombia-Bolivia match is reportedly going to be in Hartford ,Connecticut. 5PM EST. Lot's of Colombians in the area so I expect it to be jam packed since Colombia has not played there in a long time.
