This case is extra sus because they had themselves rejected his paperwork when he was 17... Then apparently decided not to bother nationalizing him and instead submitted false ids to FIFA. That's crazy.
Pretty sure Chile was generally aware of this risk but it's still worth the effort because of the possibility that they can get.
https://www.infobae.com/america/ame...l-jugador-byron-castillo/?outputType=amp-type Dome added details. Tomorrow we will officially know what will happen. I had made peace with us not making it but for this to occur and the increasing evidence, I honestly did not expect this situation to be possible and a small chance for us to somehow get a second chance, as FIFA will have to decide how to go about this if they're really gonna find Ecaudor guilty and punish them thus affecting who gets to go and who doesn't. I really want us to not miss out on going to the world cup but this isn't 100% and we don't know FIFA's mindset. Prayers tonight guys and hopefully tomorrow, we can have smiles on our faces...
If Fifa Sides with Chile and Colombia somehow makes the playoff but we are forced bring back Rueda..... wouldn't it be easier to just let Australia qualify directly haha

Reinaldo Rueda podría volver a tomar las riendas de la selección Colombia https://www.infobae.com/america/col...a-tomar-las-riendas-de-la-seleccion-colombia/
Rueda was awful in this last stint - but I think the chance he has so little shame that he SUES the FCF to be allowed to coach a playoff is very low (in the distinctly low probability this works in our favor). They've moved on and hired his replacement.
i rather not get the chance…. Rueda will make South America look bad and lose the play off but would be hilarious if he comes back and is magically what we all wanted and we lift the WC… o well it’s not a dream or fifa 23. didn’t Paraguay get super far in 2010 and they didn’t score any goals
Wait so is it true that a team has 48 hours following a match to make such claims in order to gain points? I keep seeing various people on social media saying this but that never seemed to be the case in reality?

I figured because I am pretty sure I recalled instances where it's beyond 48 hours when a side makes such a claim and eventually got the points.

So apparently what was brought wasn't enough? I guess the evidence wasn't as reliable/creditable as the media outlets made it out to be. So all for nothing.
Any indication on whether Chile will appeal to TAS? And whether FIFA will go ahead with Peru's game in the interim?
I mean we haven't heard anything following this immediately and apparently Peru didn't involve themsleves? As far as I know, this will not be challenged.
Seems like this is fairest, this guy wasn't even a big difference maker if he scammed their federation or even if it was grey seems pretty harsh to screw the whole team and country.
Imaginé if Colombia ever got sanctioned by FIFA or CONMEBOL “We sentence you to 5 years with Reinaldo Rueda as manager” Or if James got in trouble “we sentence you to play on whatever team Rafa Benitez or Zidane is charge of for 2 years” That’s hard time!
This was a totally self inflicted risk that the FEF created by not properly nationalizing the guy. FIFA's decision here is as you say likely driven by the minor impact Castillo has on the field and the fact this came up after the qualification process but on the merits, Chile's case seemed absolutely right - the Ecuadorian FA behaved like a clown show and their fantastic qualification process was endangered over paperwork they didn't bother to file.
Yeah it depends totally on how their FA acted and if it was obvious etc. IDK having a hugely incompetent FA like we do as well could you imagine being punished for this? Not sure what's right but the team and players would suffer because of a paperwork ******** up for me it would have to be really malevolent in nature to drop the hammer imo. Its a tricky spot because they've punished teams for small ******** ups plenty of times.
For all we know maybe Ecaudor did actually fix his paperwork properly; we lack any details/context as to why they came to this decision to drop the case against this player.
