Óscar Murillo, jugador de la Selección Colombia, cumplió su sueño de graduarse de bachiller y quiere estudiar una carrera profesionalhttps://t.co/6sIWJzA0a6— Revista Semana (@RevistaSemana) July 19, 2021
Has to be the best ever right? For a youth side that's a pretty amazing success rate of players making it to the top levels.
And I forgot that Jeison Murillo took over the CB position next to Franco once the WC came around! Yeah, that's insane. 80% of the '05 generation had very solid careers and many of them ended up playing roles for the senior NT. Falcao, Guarin, Zapata, Zuniga, Aguilar had solid careers in Europe. It's between the two of them.
2005 was great but at the same time a little of desapointing..... people thought or press just want to show dayro, rodallega and wason much better than falcao.....and we know what happen with the career of the others....rodallega career as decent but not as 2005 expectations...dayro and wason the same but worst. other names the same like toja, otalvaro, sebastian hernandez, marrugo, casierra.... guarin good career but never perfomed in NT properly... the big part had very short careers.
Ohhh ya I forgot about that generation, really is close and probably giving the younger guys more of an edge in my own mind because many are basically at their peak right now. Crazy to think that Franco would have been one of the guys with the highest expected success rate and he kind of never really materialized based on that potential.
I think that generation spoiled us. Colombia was so poor in the early 2000s that many of these kids were rushed into the NT with any early success. Relative to their starting and scoring in qualifiers at the age of 22, yeah, Dayro and Wason's careers seem disappointing. But the truth was Wason was never truly a goleador. He did ok for the skillset he had. Honeslty, I think Dayro and Marrugo had good careers. Yeah, they never made it in Europe, and Dayro was only a contributer to the NT for a little while, but these are dudes who remained to be important for their respective clubs into their 30s. Hernandez, too. Valencia had a great career in Brazil before injuries ended it. Toja and Libis Arenas were the true disappointments. But Falcao, Zuniga, Zapata, Ospina, Guarin, Aguilar, Valencia, Roda, Dayro, Valdes, and Wason all appeared around 20 or more times for the NT. 11 guys. That's half the team. There aren't very many sub 20 teams in history that can claim that.
Dont forget about Victor Montano, Juan Carlos Escobar, Juan Pablo Pino, Tresor Moreno, Andres Chitiva generation 1 GK Miguel Solis 7 April 1983 (aged 20) Cortuluá 2 DF José de la Cuesta 10 February 1983 (aged 20) Atlético Nacional 3 DF Javier Arizala 21 April 1984 (aged 19) Atlético Nacional 4 DF Pablo Pachón 8 October 1983 (aged 20) Independiente Santa Fe 5 MF Fredy Guarín 30 June 1986 (aged 17) Envigado 6 DF Andrés González 8 January 1984 (aged 19) América de Cali 7 FW Edixon Perea 20 April 1984 (aged 19) Atlético Nacional 8 MF Harrison Otálvaro 28 February 1986 (aged 17) América de Cali 9 FW Jaime Alfonso Ruiz 3 January 1984 (aged 19) Cortuluá 10 MF Macnelly Torres 1 November 1984 (aged 19) Junior Barranquilla 11 MF Víctor Montaño 1 May 1984 (aged 19) Millonarios 12 GK Héctor Landazuri 20 August 1983 (aged 20) Envigado 13 DF Cesar Fawcett 12 August 1983 (aged 20) Junior Barranquilla 14 MF Abel Aguilar 6 January 1985 (aged 18) Deportivo Cali 15 FW Oscar Briceño 6 September 1985 (aged 18) Deportes Tolima 16 MF Yulián Anchico 28 May 1984 (aged 19) Deportes Tolima 17 MF Jaime Castrillón 5 April 1983 (aged 20) Independiente Medellín 18 MF Farid Díaz 20 July 1983 (aged 20) Atlético Bucaramanga 19 FW Erwin Carrillo 25 June 1983 (aged 20) Unión Magdalena 20 MF Avimiled Rivas 17 October 1984 (aged 19) Atlético Nacional
Tresor Morendo and Chitiva debuted like 10 years before pino and esocobar dindnt know farid diaz was in this national team...at the end had a good career so...
Oh my dude. Chitiva never got a fair try in the NT in a period where we were awful. Frustrated me so much back then. He was so fun to watch and had a good head on his shoulders. Wason could have been someone... But he rode his natural gifts as fair as they could take him but just didn't continue working on his game. He was so promising.
man I forgot all about Farid Diaz lol, I remember Pekerman randomly calling up and he ended up being pretty decent even though he was ancient
yeah but I thought at the time it was like a one time thing, like he was just inspired or something. Thought he would turn to crap right after
you guys remember that video where Wason was teaching Neymar a dance move in the locker room? Then Neymar does the move in the game after scoring. Talk about claim to fame. Good times for Wason!
This should make many people around here happy. https://www.elheraldo.co/deportes/colombia-anuncia-que-hara-un-morfociclo-836664 Let's see if anyone can capture his attention. Hopefully a LB of some sort. ( I am looking at you Fuentes.)
call every lb that is even 5% Colombian and over 18 a CM that can pass, shoot and defend would be magical. A young Abel Aguilar. I think the Uribe Bandaid is about to break. Dude just not consistent enough
Doubt we can find someone like that in Colombia who is ready for the National Team but there could be some diamond in the rough types.
we need a better youth coach. Is Reyes still around? They should have let Rueda pick who he wanted as his U20 coach and his u17 one. if anything that sucked about Rueda being fired after 2006 was that it felt like our youth program went to total shit
