We face Venezuela after they face hosts Brazil. I naturally expect a win for the hosts but remembering the last Copa America Venezuela held them to a draw while there were some questionable moments in that game. Considering that there are 4 spots to the next round in a 5 team group stage they likely won't be in a very desperate position and would likely settle for draws if it's very possible for them. I personally think that it'll be normal business for usu and we can get an easy win out of this.
So Venezuela had to send 12 new players... https://www.espn.com/soccer/copa-am...ation-test-positive-ahead-of-opener-vs-brazil Would they now be the weakest in this group?
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.es...-to-register-positive-covid-test?platform=amp Wait we got poped for covid? What players?
otero… don’t think that Moreno going to be a quick recovery we need a LB. hopefully against Venezuela we try 3 in the back Cuellar-Barrios in the mf and give Campaz his debut.
I wonder if Munoz can play LB. He may have been rotated in on the left side a few times in Osorio's crazy rotations. I want to see Medina start RB. He can put in some crosses that can give Venezuela some problems.
he may as well, basically the colombian David Alaba so these guys are next, we really should win here as well. I think they've been like the worst south american team for a bit now
We should win. That said, they always seem to get up for us in situations like this. I am prepared for another struggle like the Ecuador game unless we score early on. The longer it is 0-0 the more nervous we all should be.
PERFECT match to rest Mina and try out The Genk 3 in the back with an added experienced defender, Sanchez. Same for Cuadrado, time to take a rest. Give Morelos minutes. ----------------Ospina------------ Munoz---Cuesta---Lucumi --Sanchez -------Barrios ---------------Cuellar Diaz -------------------- Campaz -----Morelos --------- Borre
was thinking that at 1st but Lucumi is bigger on top and has certain timing worked out with his teammate Cuesta. But yeah, I would take either.
no you posted 3 in the back but then had Sanchez + 3 cbs. At that point it’s 4 in the back I would prefer 3-2-2-3(try the genk guys but we will never start a whole new defense with 0 games in yellow at the same time. Like it vs Venezulea or a friendly against a concacaf team ————————-Ospina———————- ————Munoz—-Cuesta ——Lucumi ——- Cuadrado———————————-Diaz —————Cuellar—-Barrios————- Campaz———-Duvan———-Muriel ok Cuadrado plays both ends of the field.. he getting older so might be tough. Diaz is obviously more offensive but has a nice work rate. they both attack a ton but that is why you put two pretty defensive mfs in the middle no James so Campaz there. I don’t like what I saw from Edwin last two games. Hopefully Sinisterra can be there in the future. if goal is to rest players then Borre/Borja for Duvan No real option to rest Cuadrado unless we had Arias back
Please dont forget that is Venezuela and they have a stronger mentality, they are like the Uruguyans from the caribic, specially playing us.
Cuadrado looked tierd, even in the 1st half. Need more creativity in that MF line and I would use Campaz as a way to break lines and win some with his dribble and with his acceleration from the halfway line. I don't need him chasing long balls. We've had very little to no MF creativity/cohesion. And Rueda will not play with 3 hence why I had 4 on the back including an experienced CB in Sanchez. I have not been so impressed with Diaz for the NT. Lacking consistency and his choices as to when to win on the 1 v 1 dribble have been poor. I hate to say this because he's been very slow but Cardona is clutch. And now with confidence, I think he needs a 2nd start here with Campaz next to him.
This particular Vzla has been decimated with injuries + Covid issues + social unrest, etc. If we can't beat them soundly here, then we have no business playing in this tournament.
They still somehow some way get up for us mentally. Although we did dominate them in Barranquilla which was encouraging, this is a neutral site. Also, it may come down to Rueda's tinkering with the rotation. If we start a bunch of guys again who never have played together things may not go our way or go so smoothly.
Guys this is a Venezuela D team with basically no history against us, previous outcomes don't predict future performances. If they get up for us and take steroids all night before the game they're not gonna turn into good players lol, we need to work on our game and get control of the midfield hopefully.
This may all be true but all it takes is them to get some lucky corner or FK and we will be suffering if the tactics and and experiments in the lineup blow up in our face. We are not creating a lot of chances. Hopefully Muriel can be the x factor and can dominate them like he did in October. Assuming he plays...
I would probably go with: ----------------------Ospina--------- Medina---Lucumi-Davinson-----Tesillo -------------Barrios---------Cuellar---------- ----------------------Cardona---------------- -----Muriel----------Borja-----------Diaz
Good point. Also Borja would probably drift towards the right like Duvan did against Peru as Muriel would run all around.
Is it another game to experiment? Let’s try many attacking players. —————— Vargas Medina—Lucumi—Sanchez—Fabra —————Barrios—-Cuellar Campaz—————————Diaz ———Morelos——Borre
