    Collina resigned to retirement

Pierluigi Collina may be the world's first superstar referee but he is resigned to having to hang up his whistle in the summer of 2005.

The Italian, who handled the 2002 World Cup final between Brazil and Germany, admits he will have no choice but to quit when he passes the official Italian retirement age of 45 at the end of next season.

If ever there was a ref who deserved a waiving of the rule it's him. I'm sure he could do a few more years no problem and people as great at their job as him deserve more time.

He's the best ref I've ever seen.

A shame. I would hope that they would make an exception for him so that he could at least stay on through the 2006 World Cup. He is the Pele of referees.

    Lol

yeah, and he should definatelly be waived. As long as the referees can pass any tests they are put up against, they should be able to keep on plugging away..

    thanks
